where can MS kids go if I need childcare after school

OP, I would recommend looking to your network. Start with extended family, and if that's not an option, neighbors.

My read of DCUM that this is the same standard of care that is provided all day in school.

OP. You know your kid. If they aren’t mature enough find a babysitter, community center, boys and girls club, or other childcare center where they can do activities. Understand, that come middle school lots of kids go home to their own house unless they have a reason to be at school(ie club or sports). They hang out with friends in the neighborhood, do chores/homework, watch tv, play video games, or even get themselves ready for activities that start around 5/6pm.
