So what were the averages for TPMS 7th graders for math and English? |
| My 8th grader got scores (from 7th) that are a little out of whack with their usual performance. They have all As and high MAPs and have been in CES/magnet/etc... but got mid 3s. I told them MAPs are more meaningful but to be sure to eat breakfast and get a full night's sleep and focus this year. |
My TPMS Magnet kid (current 8th grader) had a solid 4 in English and missed a 4 by 1 point in Math. Only 1% of kids statewide got a 4 in Math(!) |
|
Has MD ever published what the levels actually mean? What does performance look like at each level?
Why are MAP more meaningful? MCAP is eventually related to graduation. Are MAP or MCAP used for magnet admissions or other stuff? |

We received our scores yesterday in the mail. My sixth grader did abysmal in English and literacy, one point away from level three 749. She was at level 2. Her reading score was good, but her writing score was low. I don’t know if she went out of time or couldn’t focus who knows.
Math is her strong suit and she scored 755, level three. What does LEA mean? Local education area? |

We have just received ours for last year (7th grade). DC is level 2 (5 point off level 3) in Algebra 1 and solid level 3 in ELA. The results are on track with his MAP somewhat (mid to high 80% range in math and mid to high 90% range in ELA).
I am finding it hard to try to interpret the MCAP since there is no prior score/score history provided. DC did better that his school average which was better than state/ELA averages too. Not sure what that means if anything. To more important point, I think for his class (2027) the requirement is just to take Algebra MCAP, not to pass it, right? This is a bit confusing. |
The county doesn't currently use MCAP for anything. It's a test required by the state of MD. MCAP was just made up a year or two ago so no track record, and it seems like they're still working out the bugs so I wouldn't take it all that seriously. MAP on the other hand is a national test used for years and in many states. |
My TPMS magnet kid was the other way round- usually scores very high in English too, but got a 3 and was one of the 1% to get a 4 for algebra. Glad to have this extra datapoint that his high school decision to pick the magnet was the right one. |
It means MCPS in this context. |
| OMG! We got our 2022 results in the mail today from 6th Grade |
| Still haven't received anything for our three children in two different schools. |
749 is pretty close to 755. 750 isn't magic, it's just where they drew the cut line. |
| I can’t believe MCPS still hasn’t mailed out all families the 2022 results. The state confirmed to me that MCPS has had electronic access to all reports since late January. |
