Current Ludlow families… what say you?

This year it is $250/month with sibling discounts & 100% of FARMS-eligible students on full scholarship. This is much cheaper than other local schools because it’s in-house. Families are very satisfied. Slots are guaranteed for everyone and there are drop-in options too.

Then there’s the afterschool enrichments program, which is basically clubs. It’s called Rising Stars and run in-house by the ECE Head Teacher. It’s truly amazing, though many clubs are not cheap (though some are). There’s everything from a Spring Musical drama club to an amazing dance program (ABL 100 kids participate) to cross country running club to a cooking club to a book club to yoga to sewing to Harry Potter STEAM to legos to Pokémon to making films club to an amazing art club to basketball (with an ex-WNBA player). Most clubs are taught by teachers and aides (who set their own prices, so lots of variation, but it’s a great way for aides in particular to supplement their salary.) There are scholarship slots available. Some clubs fill quickly, but registration is in 6 week sessions, so plenty of time to try things out and get into what your kid wants at some point.

Yes, this is a huge plus in the LTES column for us who are considering making a move. The afterschool and enrichment activities really shine through!

PTO is good and aftercare/club situation is awesome. Facilities are fine. A lot of pressure to volunteer and be involved, so go into that with eyes open -- the reason the PTO is good and that there are great events is because people do a lot for the school. There are times when I feel we could do less and let people have some time back, without taking anything away from the kids.

I wish there was less time on screens, for younger kids in particular. Also wish they'd just drop uniforms altogether at this point -- it's a very relaxed uniform environment and at least the school colors are bright and kid-friendly, but at this point it would be so much easier to just let kids where whatever (which they already do once a week). I don't really understand what uniforms are adding to the experience here.

Do you find the PTO easy to engage with? I met some of the exec board today.

I personally like having children identifiable by at least a t-shirt or a color - especially a block away from H St.

I don't understand this comment. What does the proximity of H Street have to do with school uniforms?

I got a really good impression of the school from the tour today and thought the PTO folks I met seemed really nice. I was on the K-2 tour and actually assumed the tour guide was an L-T staff member, because she seemed to know absolutely everything about the school and all of the teachers.

On the uniform front, it seemed like there was a lot of compliance in the younger grades and then only sort of a loose nod to it by some of the upper grade students. It seemed like a happy medium to me.

Weird metric but okay!

H St is a busy thoroughfare with various elements of foot, car, bus and street car traffic all day. In the event that a child somehow gets away from school, or god forbid there is an emergency and children suddenly disburse or separate from their class/teachers, staff at retail/restaurants on H St + people in the neighborhood being able to readily identify a Ludlow student could be an additional a safety measure.
