What's everyone saying about the new head of school?

The new head is fantastic-- he'd been the asst. head for many years now. He's a young guy with children at the school. He has a lot of energy and enthusiasm for the program, and is well respected by the parents and as far as I can tell, the staff too. Personally I was thrilled when he got the job.

I second that. I met him this summer, through friends of friends. We live in NW, and were not even thinking of private school. Now, we think we'll be applying this Fall for our DS.

Is this school basically Lowell on the Hill. They both have the same warm and down to earth feel to them.

Is anyone out there applying for admission for K? I'm just curious what other schools you may also be looking at.

My child was admitted for PK and I think the school would be a really good fit. I am waiting to see what happens with the Two Rivers lottery on the 29th and then will make my final decision about enrollment ... I really like the school, but am not in the position to blithely commit to the tuition before knowing what all our options are.

I think there are a lot of us in a similar economic position-- I would if it is ethical/beneificial for society for those of us that can afford private school to nonetheless take a position at a school with long waitlists-- possibly take the spot of kids that don't have other better options because they don't have as much $. When people criticize folks that have their kids go to private schools because they are "abandoning" the public schools, I think that this is the flip side-- if all the kids in private schools switched over to public, there would be even fewer spots available at the few good schools. On the other hand, I suppose eventually public schools would improve.

Anyway, regarding CHDS vs. Two Rivers, if you do turn down the offered admission to CHDS, would CHDS be less likely to admit you later on down the road than if you hadn't applied in the first place? If I were AD at CHDS I would be a bit miffed and would likely count it against you down the road, but I seem to have a bit more vengance than most folks. that fear of later retaliation is the big reason I am delay applying to certain schools until I absolutely know I would take an offered space.

We're in.

A bit concerned about how the renovations will impact on the near term, but in the long term, this seems to us as a rising star in the D.C. independent school community.

Good luck to everyone enrolling their child at that school.

Congrats. My children graduated from CHDS recently and we had a great experience at the school. I miss being part of the community there, although of course we keep in touch with lots of the families.

Will the renovation lead to the addition of grades past 8th?
