King Charles wants to slim down working royals, fine but keep the royal dregs in the United Kingdom!

The US is and always will be the dumping ground of unwanted people. That is our strength. I will admit in these cases the strength appears disguised.

Why DC tho? There are much more comfortable places.

hmm I would say the 17th century or so? didn't need knights anymore so younger sons came to the colonies- that is why there are so many ppl who can trace their families back to King James. it was a really big trend- also why there are more southerners who were all our family is important and marrying their cousins etc.. the crown colonies of VA and Georgia, the Carolinas were peopled with lesser royalty/nobility as opposed to the New England and mid Atlantic states that were founded by people fleeing religious persecution. we learned all this in like fifth grade in MCPS.. and then again in 8th grade US history and then AP us history..no need of in-depth college history classes.

ppl who have unusual life stories like to choose the United States to start a new life, including defunct royalty from all over. Tons of Greek and Austro-hungarian royalty and nobility, all the Persian royals, Ethiopian land owners who got driven out..

One of our neighbors in Alexandria is a Baron from England. We only learned this when Downton Abbey was on and his wife mentioned it at a book club meeting when we were talking about Downton. It entitled them to get married in St. Paul's Cathedral, but they got married in her hometown parish in the states. She said he just has to sign some papers occasionally to keep the family place where his parents live in some registry because the land has been leased to local farmers.

WE are not impressed as the rank of baron is the lowest in peerage and easily the most populated. There are currently 426 hereditary barons and lords of Parliament (not including courtesy baronies and lordships), and nine hereditary baronesses and ladies of Parliament in their own right. baron is the lowest

My cousin is a baron, really. But he's not in Parliament. Most of them aren't in Parliament anymore. Parliament got rid of many of the hereditary peers a couple of decades ago and his dad was one of the ones to go.

Haven't read the article but wasn't that because he fell in love with a local beauty?

I highly doubt that that Andrew will be moving here and haven’t heard that. Seems like an easy way to get his assets attached by Virginia Giuffre. Also Fergie inexplicably bought some place (with what money?) in the UK and they’ve been living together this whole time so pretty likely it was for him to live in as well.

Eugenie…I believe but aren’t they already in Portugal? Have you ever been to Montecito? It’s beautiful.

Also didn’t Eugenie used to live and work in NYC? Or was that the other one?

Probably an embassy or government consultant type of job.

They're going to pay their taxes like I do. Put money into the American economy. Try to live normal lives.

I don't get the hate.

It isn't hate. It's disgust with listening to people with unbelievably privileged lives complain about their petty problems when the lives of so many of their brother's/father's subjects are hurting.

I don't think it's hate. It's a little bit of jealousy, like an unattractive man who gets jealous of the handsome and intelligent jock.

Um…how about a credible source that says they plan to relocate here?

Harry is neither handsome nor intelligent.

However, I draw the line at letting perverts like Andrew in, we have enough corrupt, criminal pervs here already.

I agree with you.

What about Catherine Oxenberg? She has been here forever.

She Yugoslavian royalty. And an actress. I don’t hear a lot of complaints about her.

There are a very small number of people who “hate” Harry and Meghan. Some try to word their hatred in slightly more general terms, perhaps thinking that their venom will get more attention from the rest of us. I’d argue that the “hate” is at least partially based in racism. You’d think that people whose ancestors were most likely immigrants— and European immigrants at that — would have enough self-reflection to keep their thoughts about the US as a “dumping ground” to themselves.

That’s my guess too
