Dr. Abbasi at Columbia Fertility

Question to those who had a cycle at CFA. Do you get info on the follicles? Number? size? etc? I just had the anthral follicle count - the nurse was very evasive. "Everything looks ok, you have some follicles on the right, but less on the left." that was it. This is not my first time in this rodeo, I need numbers. Is your monitoring like that, or you get actual data?

When Abbasi did my count the other day she turned the screen toward me as she counted so I could watch.
Counted aloud so I knew how many for each side.

Hope that helps.

In all my cycles at CFA I never got the detailed information from nurses, it was only when talking directly w/ the doctors that I got counts, specifics, etc...

Abbasi was always great about giving me as much detail as I wanted.

I saw her many years ago ( I think before she was with Columbia) and she misdiagnosed me. Luckily the repercussions were not bad because of my situation at the time but it would've been a disaster if I would've stuck with her.

I loved Dr Rifka for his kindness and charm. But when I looked at the lab records, it was sloppy. And I had been strung along for a long time with a conservative approach. Used Dominion and got preg the first try. Did not love Dr DiMattina's bedside manner, but I sure love the kids I got from my experience there.

For those of you who had the extensive blood clotting panel done - did Abbasi go over the results with you? All of mine came back within normal range (I got a copy via Quest patient portal), but she didn't mention anything at all. She also forgot that I already tested positive for MTHFR which is the only reason I switched to her. I am a bit dismayed. I want to trust her, but at this point I am wondering if I should look elsewhere since I haven't started the stims yet.

I am also a bit ticked off that the nurse talks with me via the receptionist not directly in person. is that their typical mode of operation?

Abassi treated my MTHFR. I switched to her for blood clotting issues and immune testing. Be sure to remind her--she wrote everything down and had all her ducks in a row with me. Also, which office are you at? I hear Heather is great in the DC office. I had Sharon and Kallandria in the Bethesda office and both were great! I would email them rather than call.

Just curious.. how is MTHFR treated? The only thing I know is to take methyl folate pills instead of folic acid. Is there anything else?

She does a protocol that involves (depending on what mutations you have) blood thinner medication (Lovenox), steroid and intralipid infusions.

I used Dr. Abbasi for the birth of my daughter, who is now 5 years old. I cannot say enough fabulous things about her. She is direct, which I personally liked, considering that I needed to hear the truth - the good, the bad, the obstacles. I could reach out to her 24/7 and she was always aware of what my conditions were. Basically, she was on it. Additionally, her staff is great.
Hands down, she is the BEST. I send her cards every year and am truly grateful for ALL she has done.

Has she changed her email? Is her email posted anywhere.

I used her for the birth of my daughter who was born shortly after you posted this. I sent her a grateful email with a picture of the baby and she never responded, which surprised me because all the other professionals I worked with -- OB, MFM, acupuncturist, etc -- did.

Ah well. Still highly recommend her, although I did not find her to be on top of things, nor was I impressed with most of the staff. But in the end it worked out, which is most important.
