+1 High numbers, but no ECs to speak of. Loved Elon and graduated at the top of the class. Now in med school. |
Safety is relative. And, if you have really high stats, you should be good at UMD (EA of course). It was a safety for my kid last year. 4.83W, 1570 SAT, lots of honors, ECs. But, I agree generally that UMD is not a safety school. It just might fill that slot for some kids, though. |
| My DC is loving UMass. Got enough merit aid to make it super-affordable. |
| Another one with a student who loves UVM! |
Amherst? Does UMASS generally imply UMASS-Amherst around here? |
Yes, UMass Amherst, and I think so? |
Thanks! Is it a real safety though (low GPA/SAT threshold, high admit rate)? |

These are friends' kids
Stonehill College in MA - kid has a good job in Boston with kids who went to the colleges he was rejected by (BC, Villanova, Notre Dame) Mary Washington - kid was rejected from every other VA school he applied to - was NOT excited at all by UMW but now loves it |
Low GPA/SAT is entirely subjective. 1350 might be low for one kid, 1000 for another. |
I think it has a 66% acceptance rate? (At least that is what Google tells me). Regardless, DC is happy there! |
Great school for beer pong at the Seagrape! |
Loved my time at Mary Washington and it prepared me very well for grad school (at Va Tech). I would not have been ready for a school the size of Tech when I was 18. I’m still very close to friends from my Mary Wash days. |
| Oberlin. Devastated about not getting into Brown, but thrived here. |
| JMU has been a wonderful experience so far. Something for everyone it seems. |
PP here - tell us more! TY! |
