There's no support for this in DC or in Maryland, but other than that... |
Isn't it weird that even Maryland wouldn't want to control DC? Shouldn't the prestige of the Capital and the tons of tax revenue make this a no-brainer? What could possibly make Maryland not want DC? |
Not any weirder than that Maryland doesn't want to control Virginia or Delaware or Pennsylvania or Paris or Singapore. We're a state, not an empire. |
Dumb comment. I’m pro weapon reform but the majority of safety related crimes (car jacking, robbery, gang shootouts) have nothing to do with guns that would be banned under assault weapon bans. It’s by and large inner city people using semi automatic handguns. Gun reform is more so needed addresses school shootings, Las Vegas concert shooting type event, etc. Most of the crime in America’s cities stems from broken homes, single parent hood, lack of punishment / consequences / criminal justice, among others. |
| I am a DC resident, born and raised. I would vote retrocession tomorrow if it was on the ballot. I think that if we t was ever on a ballot it would win. It doesn't have any momentum because we keep looking at this as a statehood only issue. It had no momentum the last couple of years which was really our only chance. |
| Council just had their asses handed out to them on the Hill with dozens of Dems joining in. I’m with those Dems on this one. You suck, DC Council. Less corruption and posturing and more work. |
| This is the point at which most European governments would fall and call for the next election. But the DC Council are otherwise unemployable |
| So they’ll hold on until we get it together and elect people with some skills and common sense |
See other thread on Reimagining Council Recall Process… |

We can even get a warm body to run against that idiot in Ward 6 and you reckon we’ll recall these money-hungry grifters?
With apologies to Pinto who seems reasonable |

Considering the number of Democrats who supported this in the House, I'm going to guess it gets through the Senate, too. Only needs a simple majority. Does anyone really think Biden is gonna veto something that'll open him up to soft-on-crime allegations one year before a campaign? And there's a big difference between Biden saying he disapproved of the House actions and him saying he'll veto the measure if it gets to his desk (he hasn't actually said the latter).
But congrats to Charles Allen and his fellow Council dimwits for not reading the room and putting their national party and national party leader in an unwelcome predicament. |
It’s a complete rebuke of the City council. It’s stunning to see how many California Ds from safe seats voted in favor. Not sure how Allen can show his face on Capitol Hill now, but I’m sure he will soldier on. |
| Don’t forget the No-Do. She’s the Dumb and Allen is merely the Dumber. |
