I’m still that Potomac rejected my Kindergartner

And, yes, it can seem like a crapshoot, but it's a crapshoot with ALL the schools that get lots of applications unless you are connected -- and even then because there are cases where siblings are told to wait and apply again. Lots of outcomes that don't "make sense" during and after the pandemic.

FWIW we chose Potomac over the two or so more "established" schools in DC. There are plenty of people looking for an academically rigorous coed school with wonderful teachers that also cares about athletics.

What were the two more established schools?

“More established”? What a weird descriptor for a school that’s been around since about 1900.

You can reapply at a different entry point

Maybe it is because I have never been rejected from anywhere before (college, grad school, job interview). It was my first rejection letter!! Better to get used to it before college apps come around I guess.

We never got in either. Lower school is a mystery. No parent interview, no essay questions, no kid testing or shadow.

Maybe IS, MS and US are actual processes.

Where did you end up going?

Most overrated school in the area.
Don’t even worry about it.

my DD doesn't go to Potomac but we have some friends and associates with their kids there AND i would say the complete opposite of this. Potomac. Severely underrated, low key down to earth families and really well adjusted kids there. They just don't like to flaunt as much nor have a entitled attitude

That is not actually normal.

you are seeking outside validation. keep in mind they met you once and had to make a snap decision based on the information gleaned. You should explore why you need "acceptance" from them. THEY missed out, not the other way around

Not overrated. Phenomenal school. We couldn't be happier.

OP - I'm sorry your child was rejected, but happy that your DC is happy at another phenomenal school.

eh. A lot of folks think it is overrated because of the large group of parents that insist it is an elite school. But any school who would hire Ryan Woods is not elite. He is a buffoon.

Disgruntled Alexandria Country Day parent, eh?
