A lot of things about fashion are universal. Doc Martens are one of them.
It also wouldn't hurt you to look up how people dress in Stockholm or Copenhagen, instead of holding up fashion "trends" you see in your block.

+1

Also, it’s not weird to look to fashion in a country fairly similar to yours (western, with similarly sized cities and similar lifestyles) for ideas on how to dress for similar weather. IME people in Germany, France, Denmark do a good job of dressing practically and stylishly for wet winters. Which is what we have here. Seems like reasonable inspiration if you can’t find what you’re looking for here.

My mom is in her 60s and wears Doc Martens. She likes them. If you like them OP, wear them. Why are you all so obsessed with looking as nondescript as possible and can a shoe -- A SHOE!!! -- really be too young to wear?! GTFOH. You people are weird.

If you’ve ever been to norther Europe, many women wear this style of shoe with skirts and dresses and it doesn’t read as “young.” It does read as cool/creative, but not like a teenager. It’s a very practical shoe.

We aren’t in Northern Europe, sweetie.

NP. And?

I have mixed feelings on Dr Maartens. I came of age in the 1980s when wearing them was a counter culture statement. Now they are mainstream and ubiquitous so they’re really rather … basic.

Can a 40 yo wear them? I guess so, if she’s basic.

What’s basic is not wearing what you love because too many other people wear it, too.

If they speak to you, wear them!

No, hun. Basic is slavishly following a trend … in Northern Europe.

You judge peoples shoes.

Nothing more basic than that.

No… I answered a question with honesty and truth. Sorry it wasn’t the answer for which you were hoping.

I wear this version all fall/winter. No laces, patentish. Love them.

I am 53 and I have a pair of black ones with a lug sole. Life is too short to care what other people think you should or should not wear.

I love my Doc Maartens but the Leona style is a very heavy shoe. Try them on before you go with them or another style.

I'm about to turn 49 and I wear my cherry red ones all the time. I wore these yesterday in fact. I LOVE them and DGAF what anyone thinks about the age you need to be to wear them.

Sure, those are great. I’d wear them and I’m 55.

I’m 54 and I just got a pair for Xmas, and Birkenstock.

Lol, it’s so freeing to not give AF.
