How much are you giving teachers this holiday?

I give $100 to each of my kid's main preschool teachers.

Ive never heard of a cap on limits, is that a thing in this area? I've never had money sent back fwiw. And how would they know in a class collection?? I only have 1 child and school is not his strong suit so I err on the side of giving more because I know his teachers work hard.

MCPS does— it’s $20. That’s the same as the gift limit for federal employees. I don’t know about the other districts, but I’d be incredibly surprised if they’re any different.

What do the teachers have to do with gifts over that limit? hand it into the school? report it? I didnt know there was a cap and I'm in MCPS, never occurred to me.

I would honestly assume she’s joking. That is so far beyond remotely reasonable that it can’t possibly be real.
One year our room parent splurged and gave the teacher an overnight spa trip to the teacher for her and her husband to enjoy. Then we received an email following that telling us that the room balance was zero and that they had nothing left for the Valentine’s Day party or the end-of-the-year party as she sought additional class funding…

In our preschool we pay a $200 teacher gift fee that goes towards a gift card for the teacher - it is paid as part of tuition so class parents don’t have to collect money around the holidays and at the end of the year. That said, we still give additional. I will probably do $50 per teacher. Since it’s part of tuition it doesn’t feel personal.

$10 per teacher-- my kids are middle school/high school level along with a 3-5 sentence letter from my kid thanking them. non-generic letter with specifics included. Will repeat at end of year (high school has block scheduling so will be a different set of teachers.)

6 teachers in middle school x 1 kid
4 teachers in high school x 2 kids

I think honestly the teachers appreciate the letter from the kid more than the gift card, but we do both.

Daycare room parent sent out an email showing how much a cash donation/family 100, 125, 150 would go to giving each teacher in the daycare a bonus. I contributed $180.

I stopped altogether in MS and HS. The teachers don't really know the kids and definitely don't know the parents. They are all just phoning it in.

So the handwritten notes at the beginning of the school year, the holidays, and Teacher Appreciation Week that I write along with a gift card are not enough for you? Good to freaking know.

Sounds like you need anger management classes, immediately. You completely misinterpreted PP's post and then responded completely inappropriately. You should figure out your triggers.

You're supposed to give it back if you can, otherwise report it to the school.

Right now we are getting requests for class fund money for teacher gifts, donations for the kids’ holiday party, and now gifts for the teacher’s birthday. Three separate requests. All for the same DC.

We give the the specific teachers DS wants to thank--there are usually 2-3 each year that really click with him and he wants to appreciate them. This year math, history, and art, $10 each.

Thank you, PP, for noticing that we aren’t all phoning it in. I’m a high school teacher and I work very hard to get to know my students. I attend their games, performances, etc. I take their interests into account when I select texts for classroom activities. I am grateful that you notice and appreciate what those teachers have done for your son.

(No, I don’t need a gift! I just resent the former poster’s comment that high school teachers don’t know the kids. Ouch.)

$50 gift card for his teacher

$25 gift card for his bus driver

We have no limits AFAIK in our district.

Sorry you kid goes to a crappy school. My DD’s teachers in MS all knew her really well. When her Dad died, six came to the funeral.

NP. I think you should probably look into your judgmental attitude, which points to narcissistic tendencies. You know all, huh? Interesting. You should figure out your need to tell people what to do, immediately. Seek therapy. Best of luck to you on your journey toward maturity.
