Milkweed is a host plant for caterpillars. Once the butterfly emerges, they can do something remarkable; they can FLY to go find nectar plants! They don't need nectar plants right next to the host plants.
There are tons of people who grow native nectar plants, but not enough who grow host plants. |

Be extremely careful. Digging can break up the tubers, which causes it to spread even more. You have to make sure you get everything out. That is why Arum is such a horrendous plant. |
For sure! I went out with a spade rather than my usual hori knife. I put the hole thing in a trash bag. I didn't want to take any chances! |
