U Richmond has more of a pre-professional atmosphere due to majors in business & in accounting. |
Agree, no one got in early this year at any of the private schools in our city (not DC), which is very atypical, and I know some of the students were Ivy caliber. |
Not sure what you mean by pre-professional atmosphere. Davidson has a great pre-med program. |
| Davidson has a longer reputation of being a solid school. U Richmond has previously been a safety school for wealthy kids from VA/NC. So that would make me think the professors are better at Davidson but that's just a guess. Richmond would be more preppy IMO & Davidson a little less pretentious. |
+1 |
Richmond has a very strong Greek system. Beautiful campus. Davidson has much less emphasis on the Greek system. Known for highest teaching caliber. |
LOL I work at Vandy and it is quite diverse. It's Top 15 so not just a bunch of fratty white kids. |
are you talking 2-3 applicants that you know of or a larger pool? Think it’s hard to tell on this stuff as kids stay close to the vest for the most part regarding ED app. Is Vandy legit getting Ivy caliber kids for ED1? Granted admit rate probably easier at Vandy for ED1 (than all ivies), so those playing game theory (correctly) may try to use their ED chit there. Will be interesting when they publish ED results, and wonder if they will break down ED1 vs ED2 like they did last year - |
| Not clear as to which school--between Davidson College & U Richmond--has better professors. The University of Richmond has a larger endowment than Davidson, so U Richmond may have better professors. |
Good to hear! How important is Greek life at Vanderbilt? Our college advisor told us that it dominates the social scene. My son is not opposed to joining a frat but definitely doesn't want to feel as if he needs to do so in order to have a social life... TIA for your insight! |
Definitely not the case. Davidson is known for undergraduate teaching quality: https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-liberal-arts-colleges/undergraduate-teaching |
I know no local admissions from about seven different private schools based on senior insta accounts and my child’s social network (she is a senior). know stats of three students who were not admitted. Yet to be seen what vandy’s ed1 rate was this year (or even whether it will be released, as it was a mistake last year and is typically releases as combined rate) but I think a lot of kids were attracted by that 20 percent plus rate for ed1 of last year, and this year’s rate will turn out to be substantially lower. |
| The Vandy ED2 rate was surprisingly low last year. |
| yes but that 24% ED1 rate caught the attention of many of this year’s applicants, especially for a T15 school. But ED2 is where competition typically becomes brutal at a school like Vandy, the kids who took their ED1 shot (with the stats) at ivies and were rejected now move to plan b |
I'd visit both campuses. |
