I read this to my kid recently (with a handful of substitutions and elisions where the book uses racial slurs) and I had not realized how good it was. I really enjoyed it.

How old is your kid (and how did you substitute)? I am thinking of just that. I was going to show him the disney movie, but thought that he (5) might be ready for chapter books.

Six. I did Indians when he uses redskins and "the tribe" when he used the name of the Indian tribe. It's still got lots of problems in what it says about indians but I felt like we could talk about those whereas the repetition of words I don't want her using was a bigger deal.

Anonymous wrote:The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz. So far it reads like a best-seller - well written but a bit predictable. 1/3 through and Waiting for a big twist.

I just read this. Fast-paced, but to me, kind of predictable!

I am about to finish Two Nights in Lisbon and am really impressed! I like the spliced narration, I love the description of that corner of Europe, and I’m looking for his first book The Expats next.

I too found it very predictable but also enjoyable.

I'm reading this now as well. It's really depressing.... I love Kingsolver, and this is well-written, but I have to force myself to read it because it's so dark. Just one terrible event after another.

I just added this 5 minutes ago to my wish list based on a "top 10 books of 2022" list, but yeesh! Sounds like I may not make it through, but will give it a try.

Eight Months on Ghazzah Street by Hilary Mantel. Trying to get to some of her novels that I had not yet read when she passed away recently. She's one of my favorite authors.

Are you enjoying it? I'm looking for more nonfiction to read.

Not really, but learning a lot since I didn't grow up here. I grew up in a country and time when all were poor. I wanted to know what makes poor people in US different from poor people my country. There's no comparison.

You & Me, by Tal Bauer.

This is a really enjoyable book! I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I do, or maybe I wasn’t expecting it to be as heartfelt as it is. Recommended.
