This is cold comfort to DC parents who have lost their kids to gun violence, or who have permanently disabled kids from gun violence. Do you know how callous it comes across when you try to deflect your own problems by highlighting others?

Y’all realize that both violent and property crime in DC (including murders) are DOWN in 2022 compared to 2021, right?

Compare it over many years not just 3.

Nobody wants to hear this but murders are still historically low.

So we shouldn't care about children being murdered? Gotcha.

Also, if the number of murders (226 last year) is too small for you to care about, you must really not care about the number of people killed last year in traffic accidents because those are way, way more rare (40).

I didn't say they were small, I said the tag line is misinformation. Why didn't you care about crime in 2019? Was it low enough for you. The problem is not that it is up.

Is 1 okay with you? No, i don't think so ... so 226 is terrible but again it's not up 133 %, not really. It's misinformation, just use real information so people can actually talk about the real issues.

In 2021, there were six children in D.C. who were shot and killed. So far this year, 14 children in DC have been shot and killed. That's a 133 percent increase (and counting).

In 2021, there were 47 children in DC in total who were shot (both fatal and nonfatal). So far this year, 90 children have been shot (both fatal and nonfatal). That's a 91 percent increase (and counting).

They. Don’t. Care.

Hold them accountable. Flood their offices with old stuffed animals holding little signs saying "HELP".

Trying to discredit rising murders of children as misinformation is pretty gross behavior.

Anonymous wrote:This is horrible. I feel like we're trapped in this cycle of talking around and around what is causing the crime increase and how to address it, but in the end aren't doing anything. And the election will have no impact because general elections in DC have almost no impact. None of the top contenders for the at-large seat are going to do anything different than what we have been doing and everyone else was essentially elected in the primary.

It feels so futile.

What do you mean when you say "what we've been doing"?

We've been funding the heck out of police including seemingly unlimited overtime, stocked equipment, etc. But we don't fund out teachers, social workers, or violence interrupters that way. There are people pushing to increase that but it isn't what we have been doing.

The violence interruptors is the biggest scam in DC. these are convicted criminals now making 50k a year to "interrupt" violence. They do not track any measureble data for individual performance, crime is higher, juvenile crime and kids shot has skyrocketed this year. Its like the wild west and teenagers know it. Not enough prosecution or holding parents accountable for their minor criminals

A spike and a rise are 2 different things.
