To be fair, she hasn’t even been formally asked to form a governmemt yet. |
She did that with the Queen who died? She died 2 days later but it still happened. Don't know if it has to be officially 'approved' if so -- what was the new Chancellor doing putting out economic policy without approvals? |
They tanked the UK gilt markets and brought a number of pension funds to the brink of insolvency. We all know how quickly a crisis in a major banking centre spreads to the rest of the world. |
Actually now that I think on it...that's a good question. The UK system of no written constitution is nuts. Who was in charge? Because Charles didn't meet Truss until days later, Queenie was dead, and the monarch is supposed to approve Prime Ministers. So how did they upend the UK economy with no official instatement? |
|
She is guiding England to the bring of economic disaster.
IOW doing what she was sent to do. |
JFC, is this what all of conservatism has slid into, around the world? Far right wing lunatic antics to bring the whole thing crashing down? The irony of calling this "conservatism." |
There is now a blonde wig and a smiling mouth. God bless the British sense of humour
The original Economist article was even more brutal. They called her “ the Iceberg lady”, a play on “ the iron lady” which was Margret Thatchers nickname. Liz Truss openly models her policy’s on Thatchers. |
| Gone by end of week. Hunt gutted her today by rolling back the “plan” for unfunded tax cuts and a two-year freeze on energy prices. Stabilized bond market and value of pound. More austerity measures to be announced on 10/31. The UK economy is fully broken with devastating consequences for winter. |

Truss out
Lettuce 1 Truss 0 |
| And she’s gone. |
|
She just resigned.
Is that a record? Probably not knowing England… |
Actually I was right initially- a record by a lot! Wonder if they already had this written yesterday. https://www.history.co.uk/articles/the-7-shortest-serving-uk-prime-ministers-in-modern-history |
| So do the Tories just pick someone else, or does the UK now vote? |
|
Is the UK officially more of a hot mess than the U.S. politically?
I feel like they get a wide berth because of the accent, but this...this is too much. Especially coming after Boris. |
no, the people don't vote. Parliament will pick. The people don't vote for the PM, unlike here where we vote for POTUS. They vote for the parliament member (like the House) here. It will be Hunt, the obvious choice. |
