LMAO, you do realize that kids with 98th percentile on standardized tests can get B's and C's (and get accepted for magnet programs)? |
Now that they don’t use CogAt scores, I’d be really surprised if kids with Bs and Cs were getting into magnets. Has anyone had a kid accepted in the last 2 years without all As in the relevant content areas? |
Never heard this. Citation? Thx! |
The magnet coordinator at Blair told everyone in the presentation on Monday night. |
So CAP, VAC and the IB programs only care about Stem grades, or your writing skills aren't coherent enough to express that you were only talking about one Blair magnet? |
No, your reading skills weren’t strong enough for you to read the entire thread above that question to see it was talking about the Blair STEM magnet. I know it’s tough to follow but if you click the box titled “click here to see earlier quotes” you could have worked it out without the snippy comment. |
| And also Wheaton. |
Of course they're talking about Blair silly. That's the only magnet that matters!
|
| OP- not wading through the crazy but here to say, of course! Have your kid apply. What’s the worst that can happen? It’s only a 250 word essay. Go for it. |
And also because it was in response to a post about Blair SMACS and Wheaton engineering. |
| Yes. They DO NOT take just tip top kids, if you want it -apply. Blair has three 9th grade levels of math for the magnet kids - and have for YEARS. They are looking for a variety. That said, your kid has to want to work & be challenged. Go for it. Don’t let detractors sway you. Half this forum is a mind game trying to psych people out. |
So they randomly pick tip-top kids and throw in a few less stellar candidates for good measure? That's not all that encouraging. |
| You can be stellar in say Science as opposed to math and its hard to quantify. I’m just saying, yes, its tons of top tier kids, but there are lots of other good kids too. If they have always had 3 levels of math, it shows they take all ranges……math is the difference. In 9th you take the same science and comp sci (some kids advance up comp sci 2nd semester) but the math is what differentiates them. |
| Oh my people. Wait until you have children applying to college. In no way does college take only the top kids…..they want diversity and different experiences and different people. Apply to the programs your child is interested in, and see how it goes….. Do not let a forum of strangers dictate your child’s choices. |
? Um, aren’t all people inherently “different people?” What does that even mean? I have twins. They are not the same person. They’re not capable of adding different perspectives and contributions? |
