My 13 year old gets $15/hr. She typically watches sleeping babies in a monitor. No feeding/bedtime/diapers.
I’d expect $18-20 for what op is describing. |
| My 15 year old came home from watching one 4 year old for 3 hours with $60. First babysitting job. She was stunned (we told her to ask for $15) and is motivated to help them again the next time she is asked. North side of Chicago (city, not suburbs). High school kids are busy and their free time is valuable. |

14 year old - $15-20
17 year old - $20 |
| We have two 17 year old sitters we pay $20 / hr. But we recently hired one of the aftercare teachers to babysit and she told us her rate was $20 also. |
| My kids are 16 and 17 get $20/hour w tip/roundup on late nights or harder visits. |
| My 16 year old DD makes $20. A new family said they’d give her $25, but haven’t actually scheduled her yet, so we’ll see if that actually happens. I can’t believe they get paid more than retail. |
| MCPS pays its teacher subs $20/hr to take care of 30 kids. Para subs (no college needed) make less to help with kids with high needs. But affluent teens in Bethesda pull in $20/hr to watch one eight year old. |
It’s minimum wage (or over) plus tax free. Good luck to a 17 yr old wanting a job making more than that |
