Can I wear a black dress to a wedding?

+1000

No one cares, as long as you look minorly ok. Legitimately.

I can’t tell if people are saying no to black for a wedding - which I’ve never heard of - or no to the dress (I think it’s too casual personally, but also that with the right accessories it would be manageable if you simply love the way it fits).

Go to TJMaxx or Marshalls and buy a nice brandname dress for less.

They're all from the same factories in China anyway. If it fits well and you accessorize (heels, bling) I think this is perfectly fine for a wedding

This is the correct answer.

No, this is made up. You can absolutely wear black to a cocktail attire wedding.

I wouldn't.

Of course it's fine to wear black. The only tacky color is white/off-white. OK, don't wear crazy in-your-face-neon, but black is classic and completely fine.

If it’s after 6 at a formal venue, idiot.

OP, way to go on the weight loss. Hope you feel great. It can be tricky to figure out what to wear and how to dress when you’re a new size or shape or your proportions have changed. But this might be a perfect excuse to treat yourself to a new outfit.

The dress you have is a wrap style, which is great. Maybe stick with that style, but get a more formal/party/ cocktail version of a wrap. Or how about separates, like a cool formal top with a fit and flare skirt or slim pants? That way, you get the best fit for both top and bottom.

Some good advice I follow is to buy the size of your biggest ‘part’ and then get the rest tailored down.

The Adrianna Papell website has lots of options. It’s not super-fashion-forward, but as others have written, we can maybe over-think wedding guest attire.

Hope you find something you feel great in, and if that’s the black wrap dress you already have, then you will rock it!!!

To wear black? What are you, a country bumpkin whose wedding consisted of cake and kool aid at the church hall after the wedding? smh

Absolutely… A wedding is a the same as funeral.

I was in a wedding where the bridesmaids wore black, and my own bridesmaid wore black.

+1. Don't wear white or off-white, skip the tight red Jessica Rabbit dress with the thigh-high slit, and avoid denim and terrycloth, and you're fine. No one is really paying attention to you, anyway.

If you’ve changed sizes recently, how about going to Nordstrom or other nice store, and asking a sales person for ideas? Try on several things and see what looks and feels good.
