As someone who recently got a speeding ticket there I would suggest this might be the bridge that NY ave takes over the train tracks (say between Florida and 4 th st NE). It’s a 6 lane road with limited access and the speed limit is 25.
Not arguing, but it’s easy to get well above that speed at off hours without being unsafe. |
There is camera enforcement there. No need for active traffic enforcement. |
| In VA this would have qualified as reckless driving which warrants a court appearance. No tickets. |
| OP here. Was Taft Bridge at evening rush hour. Must have hit at exact right time to hit 54 - bridge was almost clear and was passing a vehicle on the left. Most bridges in DC are 40 so was surprised that one was 25. Point of post was I thought speed limit was higher and even if not, in a decade of driving no one has cared to enforce, so what has changed? Also thing that is bothering me is cop saying multiple times that he could arrest me and seeming surprised I had no prior traffic or other violations. No issue with $500 ticket (clearly I deserved it), just VERY bothered by the throw me in jail comments. Found out I could take a class for 8 hours to get rid of points but no time for that. Will just pay attention to posted limits and be careful to stay within 10 MPH of them. Would appreciate any actual suggestions of folks with actual knowledge of DC streets and law. Re: bikers, I could not care less, but if one of them riding WAY worse than I drive in a car actually hits one of my kids on a trail (they have come close too many times), I will definitely end up in jail. |
If you were going 54 MPH on CT Ave you are a very dangerous driver and should have your license revoked and you should be grateful that MPD is lazy - in VA you would have been hauled off to jail for driving so recklessly. The speed limit on CT Ave used to be 30MPH and was recently lowered to 25MPH. It is a dense residential street with lots of pedestrians, schools and Metro stops. It was incredibly selfish of you to drive so recklessly and what are you talking about DC has bridges with a 40MPH speed limit on them? Can you cite what bridges you are even talking about? And completely pointless - the average travel speed on CT Ave is like 12MPH so all you were doing was racing from one traffic queue to another but I guess Maryland drivers are going to be Maryland drivers. Because of dangerous people like you stuff like this regularly happens and innocent people end up dead so you can live out your car commercial fantasies in your imported SUV: https://twitter.com/dcfireems/status/1574946062627840002?cxt=HHwWhICpta_GqtsrAAAA Please stay off our roads - you are a menace to society. |
If you have to speed up that fast to pass a car, you shouldn't be passing them. Just take your foot off the gas and get behind them. I promise nobody will think less of you. Even if the speed limit was 40, you were going too fast. Please slow down. |

Pretty much confirms this is a troll. |
