| My guess this is principal controlled, though obviously more and more schools have pivoted away from allowing it. |
| I live in Arizona and we have birthday celebrations in my kids’ public school. Treats must be store-bought, and the kid gets a little goodie bag from the office with pencils, stickers etc… and they get a birthday crown to wear all day. The teacher distributes the treats at the end of the day - right before they pack up for pick up. Honestly, I am not sure how the allergies are handled- it is a nut free school too. Obviously the treats aren’t necessary, but the school does allow it. |
You’re so busy cursing that you missed the entire point of the post. |
Giant and Safeway have prepackages cupcakes that are labeled nut free from a nut free facility. My kid has other food allergies. Teachers brought in stuff and kept telling my kid it was ok for another allergy and we had several er visits. Cup cakes are far better than the candy and cr@p that gets thrown away. |
We couldnt have afforded to bring treats for the whole class either. Very odd to me that someone would think being able to afford treats for all is equitable. Other students have parents who are struggling with life and couldn't /wouldn't do this because they are struggling with mental health. would hate to be the kid who has a birthday on the same week as a kid with a mom who would actually bake cupcakes and bring them in while I'm sitting there knowing my parent wasnt even showing up. Imagine the privilege to believe all kids have caring involved parents who aren't struggling with mental disorders. Wow. |
| Wow. You guys will fight over anything. |
Wow. MCPS hasn’t allowed homemade treats for years. Nobody’s mom is baking cupcakes. Wow. |
| I think the policy is you can bring in a whole class treat or celebrate during lunch. |
Wow. Imagine getting shooooook over home made vs store bought. |
Don't bring my child sugar please. Thanks. |
Right, nor showing up. The kid brings the Oreos in the backpack in the morning or carries the store bought cupcakes in. |
Homeschool your snowflake please. Thanks! |
Ok, so my kid was wrong, they still allow it in her school. Someone brought munchkins in for the class for their birthday at lunch time. School also does an announcement and they get a birthday pencil from the office. This is a title 1 school.

More time learning. I guess. |
This. Kids brings Oreos in to school in their backpacks. If the kid can’t afford to bring in Oreos, the teacher usually has extra. Parents send in extra, so that every kid gets a chance to participate. |
