I really was mostly in the mindset of organizational items - hooks to hang wet towels, rubbermaid storage “shelves”, bins etc. Son thinks all will fit into whatever storage is provided by the college in the room. If he wants a poster or flag I’m in favor but I’m more focused on not wanting his towel to become moldy nor his side of room to be a mess because he has nowhere to put extra sheets, towels, etc. To be clear he has a small wardrobe and only 2 sets of sheets/towels so maybe I am overthinking, but I remember putting my bed on blocks and then shoving rubbermaid storage bins under, plus using egg crates for extra items.

I am a pp, but I think you're overthinking. My DS didn't want to do anything like that either. No storage boxes, hooks, etc and it was all fine. Honestly, he trashed or donated nearly 50% of the little he had because we weren't there at pick up.

OP we moved in our freshman DS 2 weeks ago:

- 3 drawer plastic container for under the bed
- Risers to raise the bed
- 3 hook for towels on end of bed
- Plastic shoe rack for under the bed
- 4 milk crates for the cupboard above the wardrobe
- Full length mirror with hooks to hang inside of wardrobe door

Packets of command hooks

He also had some decorating items but nothing like the girls on his hall

That doesn’t sound like what OP is looking for. Goodness.

If he’s heterosexual he’s not going to care one bit about decor.

My brother was an athlete who roomed with 3 wrestlers abs there were leaves all over the living room because nobody ever closed the door and they blew in.

Some may hang a team poster or rock band, but they certainly aren’t coordinating colors and matching duvets lmaof

Minimum amounts of clothing (2 weeks worth). Two hoodies only. We'll see. Maybe he will need more? Did not take PJs.

Asked for -
- carpet
- 1 plant that can survive in low light
- better fan because no AC. We got a vornado.
- a room upright lamp

Some colleges ban upright halogen lamps because they can be fire hazards.

Your college-age boy owns pajamas?

Carpet is a good idea, as is the fan.

I'm surprised that long strips of LED lights haven't been mentioned here. Lots of teens seem to like them. I would have thought that they would be popular at colleges.

You just reminded me of something funny. When I was in college, I took a marketing class. The focus of my research project was marketing pajamas to young men. I surveyed the residents of the all male dorm I worked at (my job was staffing the front desk, checking ID's, etc). Most of my respondents said they only wore pajamas when they were sick (if at all). They also did not purchase their own Pajamas (I think their moms tended to??)

Looking back on it, that was an interesting ( ) topic for me to choose to survey guys about??!!

Kids bring gaming consoles and tv’s? really?

Yes, very very typical. My son's quad had two gaming consoles (Sony and Microsoft), two refrigerators, and a bar. Lots of blue comforters and posters.

What could possibly go wrong (with their GPA)???

(I would not endorse this suggestion)

Plants really brightened up my kid's room.

But she did not really realize until she was a senior.

(Note: they can all die over the holiday break, unless you haul them back and forth)

You just described my son's dorm room. Well, he has no TV and two posters
(The Smiths and New Order. His GenX parents are so proud)

Awesome posters. I’d be proud too.

+2
When I was in college (late 80s), we had an enormous poster of Morrisey.

Those same JMU dorm rooms are adorable when decorated. Just like all the similar dorm rooms in thousands of other colleges. Just do a google search.
