Cruise Control — do people really use it?

This. I use it very often. On the Beltway. In Old Town. Pretty much everywhere.

Yes. All major highways when not completely congested.

You sound like a friend of mine who used to dislike anti-lock brakes, electric windows and automatic transmissions.

Automatic transmissions suck.

Driven cars with manual transmissions my entire life but modern day 8-speed ZF autos are pretty impressive in their own right. At least engineers at BMW Motorsport (M Division) thinks so.

There's little to no chance that I'll ever buy a stick shift/manual transmission again. Automatics rock!

I use it always on the highway -- mine is adaptive so it will slow down if a car in front isn't going as fast, then speed up after. I also have stop-and-go which is a godsend in heavy traffic. It will bring the car to a full stop, then accelerate again once it clears up -- so much easier in backups on 495.

I even use it on local roads like Connecticut Ave at 30mph when I know the road is full of speed cameras.

+1 to the better gas mileage on cruise control.

Yes, dh loves it. I started using it when I was driving for work, so to keep me from speeding. And after some speeding tickets in NY state, they are very strict about them... so now I use it too.

I rarely ever use cruise control. It'd make me sleepy. I've only done it on a long straight interstate highway in Texas.

Never found it all that helpful driving throughout the NE. Use it occasionally with light traffic on rural highways to keep speed in check. The ACC drags the brakes too much for my liking.

I use it on long distance trips. Helps to save gas and avoid speeding tickets.
