| Hmmm...who are the incoming parents and new staff that made all these administrators want to leave.good for them and good luck to the new ones - you will need it. |
Yes, sure. Blame the parents in the first week of the school year...
|
Tucker retired on the last day of August. Beckett is the one who was an AP at Pyle and is now at Westland. Looks like Tsonis is leaving as of October 1 if I read the principal's email correctly. So yes, lots of change. |
That makes sense since she's an acting AP. She is a retired former MS principal. |
| She is still on the Pyle website, it hasn’t been updated. She left because she didn’t like it and had been trying to leave. Not much affection between her and the other admin. Apparent to all by the end. |
| My kids are there; school is fine. Wish they had better selection of clubs/ afterschool activities. |
Have you met some of those parents? Could tell you at least a half dozen of them can create so much work. |
Which new staff member made them want to leave? Let's guess. |
Westland has 850 students. If only 6 parents bugging you--that's fewer difficult people than I face in my job. |
Only the AP? How about new or transfer staff this year? |
|
Walker is the new principal at Westland. I think it's a little early to make an assessment on her performance.
Going back to the PP who said that the MS in MCPS are indistinguishable--that's not true and there are some important differences. The biggest IMO is the scheduling. Pyle has experimented with different types of schedules, but when my kid was there they had block scheduling with longer class periods. That was great for my kid, but a disaster for others. I think Westland has traditional length class periods and you have every class every day. Pick the MS based on the HS you would like your child to go to. There are very real differences between the various High Schools--both in terms of demographics, academic offerings, and sports. WJ is wildly overcrowded and relief via redistricting won't come for at least two more years. BCC has had a ton of issues with safety lately. Etc. etc. |
| C'mon - it's DCUM. Go ahead and trash her; someone else will jump to her defense. |
Okay, I'll bite. I'm a Pyle parent that is probably seen as a PITA. My kid is disabled and that means I need to advocate hard and often. I actually found Lauretta Beckett to be a very thoughtful and communicative AP. She seemed to really understand the grade cohort she was responsible for- who was friends with who, which kids were feeling left out, who needed extra support, etc. Anyhow, my experience was rather positive! |
When an admin is out an outrageous number of days, it creates a lot of work for the other APs. I hope she can turn over a new leaf at Westland. Her heart may be more in it since the new principal is her friend. |
Ha. I’m probably considered a PITA as well. Sometimes we have to be in order to help our kids not get dismissed, ignored or worse. Sounds like you’re being a great mom. |
