It's essentially about how people process enormous grief, not just for people but for societal and community level losses. It explores belief, science, disillusionment, psychology, and relationships. It's very well acted. Carrie Coon is phenomenal, but also standout performances by Regina King, Amy Brenneman, Margaret Qualley, and Justin Theroux. Theroux especially grew on me -- I had thought of him as just kind of a pretty boy and he is sort of just that in the first season, but by the end of the series I felt like he basically carries the show alongside Coon.

And while I don't want to give the ending away, I do feel it leaves you with a sense of grounding and hope. Not that "everything will be okay" in a trite sense. But that people and families will persevere in their own ways.

The Leftovers is one of the most original, thought provoking, dark - and often very funny - shows I've ever seen. I watched it years ago and think about it to this day. So beautifully done.

I really want to watch The Leftovers but heard it was canceled prematurely. Does it have a satisfying end/does the story close? I don’t want to get invested in a multi-season show if it just fizzles out…

It had a perfect ending, actually. It is such, such a good show. Intense - just be ready for that.

If you like Free Solo, and movies like Meru and the Dawn Wall, you must watch the Alpinist on Netflix.

To Leverage fans -- the recent reboot (mostly the same cast, same showrunners, same premise/tone/types of cons), called "Leverage: Redemption," is good and if you liked the original series, I'd recommend you try the reboot as well. I think it's on IMDB TV but I believe we saw it on Amazon Prime as part of some package when we got Prime during the pandemic. Nate is gone, and Hardison is only around at the start and end, but Sophie, Parker and Elliot are all there, along with Hardison's hacker sister and a shady-but-goodhearted lawyer played by Noah Wyle of "ER" and "The Librarians."

Are you still watching Severance or did you finish the season? If you haven't finished -- keep going. It helps to binge the last three episodes together, or at least the last two.

The series starts off, very intentionally, I think, with deliberate slowness, to build the world carefully. But by the last few episodes I was so tensed up and worried about the characters. It did an effective job of very sneakily making me care much more than I realized I would at the beginning!

Same!!! But only thing next Gen and later.

Next Gen and Voyager. I feel like voyager is the under appreciated trek — maybe lots of guys couldn’t handle the female captain. But I think the character development on it is phenomenal. The doctor is hilarious and seven the former borg is also a great story arc. (That actor also played an inadvertent role in bring us Barack Obama as president….).

Excellent recommendation. Although I will admit that it also makes me sad watching a show about a decidedly better future past than we have/had.
