What would be your first choice for countertops?

What would you choose and why?

Is anyone looking at porcelain?

We did look at the Dekton product. IMO, it felt too much like ceramic tile to the touch and honestly I didn't see the alleged better resemblance of marble than quartz. Plus way more expensive.

Seems like an unpopular opinion, but we are doing quartz for the kitchen and laundry in our custom build, mainly because of the durability and ease of maintenance. We have it in our house now and it is indestructible. I am a working mom with a 7 year old pigpen (love him, but he's a mess) and a 9 year old - I would LOVE marble but we don't live that life. We found a subtle, low-key pattern that doesn't scream fake to me. Then granite and quartzite in the bathrooms and outdoor kitchen.

A few years ago, everyone was doing quartz. Heck, everyone still is. I’m not sure when it became an unpopular opinion, but I’m with you. I prefer the solid color quartz myself because I don’t like it when materials try to pretend to be something they aren’t. I feel like quartz should be proud of being quartz.

stainless steel; soapstone; white quartz; penny round/hex - I know, but I love the look and have a 1920's home.

Granite with a very bold unique pattern. It's probably tacky, but I don't care

Honed marble. I’ve had it for 17 yrs and would get it again and again.

You are right; he is wrong. Soapstone is so beautiful!

It looks great and is so functional. It is super easy to keep clean and you cannot damage it. She kept her island in the granite that she loves, and I will do the same thing.

Love stainless! No maintenance and indestructible. Can put anything hot on it with abandon. Also environmentally friendly as it is recycled.

Plus stainless integral sinks! The best

I had never considered stainless. I don’t suppose anybody has inspiration photos they like?

I have honed marble countertops and love them. They have dings and etches but I still love it. For me, nothing compares and I'd do it again.

Are you messy? Are you consistent with home maintenance? Are you clumsy?

Just wondering if marble is a realistic option for people like me.

Sorry meant Uba Tuba.

We have marble and I honestly love it. We had it honed so if there is etching it’s not noticeable. I know people love quartz, but it just looked so fake to me.

I love the look of butcher block but I don’t think I could handle the maintenance.

We have had quartzite in our master bathroom for 8 years with no issue. We took home a sample before we selected it and tried hard to stain and etch it. This is how we knew it was real quartzite. It is super white.
