The unknown long term effects on cognition and respiratory capacity are factors few think about. More is being published about these and other effects on the body.

And there are already articles being published about the severe and widespread mental health outcomes from overly isolating people during this pandemic. It must stop. Wear a mask if you are still clinging to covid fear.

Very few people have isolated the entire time. But, we mostly have and we are fine in terms of mental health. Covid is a far greater risk to us due to health issues than mental health. Many people have untreated mental health issues regardless of covid and blame covid but covid is not to blame.

But, covid is far from being done with us.

Mental health should be a priority. Over worrying about a virus when you are vaccinated is not good. Dismissing the effects of creating a weird world for kids where they do not see faces is strange. Science has told us that basically everyone is getting this at some point. Make sure you are vaccinated and you will be fine. Parents will not be okay with going back to masks and that would be the majority of parents and not outliers.

Keeping kids in school and on a predictable routine helps their mental health. Letting kids see their loved ones and celebrate rituals like Easter traditions helps mental health If outdoor lunch or a few days of masks before spring break achieves that then I'm all for it.

Kids who have bad home lives need to be in person. However teaching kids to be flexible and live in a community is also good for mental health. You know what’s bad for mental health. Being sick or making your parents sick.

So, kids who don’t celebrate Easter means what? Mine have never celebrated Easter. Sounds like your family needs therapy.

If this is the case. It’s the same as universal masking mandate. Kids in that school will be required to mask almost all the time. Speak up if you think it’s excessive!

Please sit down and shut up. I'm so sick of the mask-phobic people on this board. Kids wearing masks for 10 days when there is clearly a spike (we had it at our school, too) is reasonable, esp. to try to minimize before spring break.

Masking so people can still take their spring break trips is not reasonable.

Or skipping spring break trips while in a pandemic is not unreasonable

I think you and I are on the same side. I'm the one proposing masking and outdoor lunch as a way to allow kids to stay in school because they don't get sick and need to isolate, or cancel their plans, which could include celebrating Easter, or visiting loved ones or attending Seder or iftar.

I have no idea why you think my family needs therapy.

With a surge people need to cool it on their activities outside of school.

And most aren’t isolating when sick.

Agree with pp-no one wants to go back to mask mandates for a virus that has evolved. I don’t get that there is a population of folks who always will have a reason for mask mandates.
Anonymous
There is no reason to axe community wide pcr as well as strategic rapid testing though. Zero.
Anonymous
Most people do not care about that. They care about mask mandates. I like having more info and the. people can decide what is correct for their family.
