We offered free rent back to win the bid on our current house. It already had an offer the first day it listed (we went to see it that same day). Knew it would go fast.
Fortunately we had the foresight to sell our house and move into a temporary rental with month to month option so we could be flexible as buyers and put forth a competitive offer. This was with 2 young kids and pets. Not planning to sell anytime soon, but since my family managed to make it happen as a buyer, I wouldn’t feel bad asking for it as a seller. This is the stuff that sweetens the pot and gets the house in the hot area. 5-6 months is ridiculous though. I would do 45 day close and 1-2 months free rent back. 6 months of mortgage payments without actually living in the house could literally add another 20k to what you’re paying basically. |
