Exactly. OP isn’t telling us why she’s sticking with this not-so-bright doctor.

OP here. I was wondering if I should maybe have my husband take him next time? It’s only one parent allowed and I’m 5’2” and 120lbs. He probably thinks I’m too petite and basing it off that? My husband is 6’1” and 190lbs. I tried to explain that most of the men on my husband side and my side are tall ( most over 6ft) and have football player builds.

Both parents not “allowed” to accompany your child?? That’s plain sick. Please start asking for recommendations for a replacement pediatrician.

That was normal for a lot of offices due to covid

I don't recall my daughter's weights offhand but she was born 6#6oz and quickly jumped to 90+% for height and weight by 4 months, so probably 16.5/17 lbs. Nobody ever said a word. She's 2.5 now- her height continues to be 98% but her weight is down to 80% or so. She looks like a perfectly healthy toddler though. I recall she was EBF and I did weighted feeds during the day because at times as she got older she didn't seem completely satisfied. At one point it came to 40 oz/day but typical was around 35 oz/day until she began solids. So what you describe to me sounds normal in my experience and I would find a new pediatrician.

OP let me tell you that some pediatricians don’t know everything.

My first son was a tiny little things born in the 6lb range and was always 1-2lbs smaller than the average baby his age. He was happy and healthy, but I got a lot of rude feedback at appointments firm the pediatrician that I wasn’t feeding him enough. He ate the recommended amount and I wasn’t willing to over feed him or add rice or solids early.

My second son was a big baby born in the 7lb range and had always been on target or 1lb bigger than babies his age. The pediatrician said he was overweight and I needed to cut feedings. I just laughed it off and kept doing what my baby wanted.

Both kids are happy and thriving. My first caught up and is now a tall and skinny 4 year old and my 2 year old is a tall and skinny kid.

Genetics play a much bigger part than most think. I wounding worry unless he gains 5lbs in a month or is 40lbs at 12 months or something. Feed your kid and gets. Second opinion.

OP here. They only allow one parent because of Covid.

OP here. He eats Enfamil NeuroPro RTF. We can switch if there is a better formula. We went with it because it was RTF and he liked it.

That formula is not very good. Maybe try a healthier option? Why can’t you breastfeed more so you don’t have to rely on formula? Maybe he is gaining too fast because he is on formula? Try feeding only breast milk and see if that helps.

OP here. I stuck with the pediatrician because I figured he knows more than I do. I only decided to think about getting a second opinion when the nurse told us on Friday that the pediatrician is crazy and to get a second opinion.

OP here. Yes but that doesn’t matter. They have me what in the car and I get a call when it’s my time to go in. No other patients are there and only one parent is allowed. I’ve heard that it’s a common thing with the pandemic.

Mine was 7 lb 2oz at birth and 17lb5 oz at 4 months (just checked the app I tracked it all in). He was born very average and quickly chunked up. He’s hovered around the 85-90% for weight ever since and our doctor has said his growth chart is perfect (now 1.5 years). And no one was ever concerned about his weight gain in early infanthood. At around the same age he was drinking similar amounts of milk you describe (also combo fed). By 6 months, he was probably averaging more like 35oz a day which tapered off as solids became a bigger part of his diet. Our doctor was never concerned and said even bottle fed babies self regulate pretty well. I’d definitely get a second opinion, OP.

You need a new pediatrician immediately. Your baby should not go hungry. He had kept a similar path on the growth charts and it would be cruel to cut back. Different babies also have different metabolism. My twins were fed the same yet one gained significantly more weight than the other. Now tweens, that one is about 3” taller and 18 pounds more than his twin. He takes after one parent and his sibling the other. Your Dr is being ridiculous and wasting everyone’s time and efforts.

Another vote for finding a new pediatrician, if only because you need to be able to trust your pediatrician. Definitely worthwhile to get a second opinion. And just for another data point, my son was 7 lbs, 5 oz at birth, was exclusively breastfed, lost some weight around one month old due to an illness/hospitalization, and was still 17 lbs at 4 months. Other than being surprised that he was breastfed, doctors never raised any issue with his weight. His weight gain slowed down once he started crawling and he's about 25 lbs now at 18 months.

OP here. I have low supply and only why 16-20 ounces a day. He gets whatever breast milk I pump and then formula. I’m open to trying another formula that is better quality if it’s necessary. We went with Enfamil because we were told RTF is more sterile and it was easy to get in the store. He liked it so we just stuck with it because it’s less messy than power.
