Agree wholeheartedly. I have a kid at Davidson and character counts with their admissions office. They unofficially seem to have a no jerk policy. For insight into the admissions process at Davidson, read Jeff Selingo's Who Gets in and Why book. Davidson is one of the 3 schools in the book that granted him access to the admissions process. |
Miami of Ohio is a state school with at least 15,000 students so not really like Davidson which is much smaller and a LAC. |
| I'm the OP and thanks for all the recommendations. Will recommend that my D look into adding Furman and Rhodes to the spring break list though Rhodes will be a bit of a hike to get to. We already plan on visiting W&L, and we'll also take an official tour of Davidson with the students on campus. She's planning on having lunch w/a former HS team captain my D respects greatly who is at Davidson and loves it. It's too bad Davidson isn't having their summer July Experience program this year due to covid. The friend told my D that kids who successfully complete the summer program and apply ED have an really great chance of admittance. |

Davidson has a lower acceptance rate. |

They are very close. According to their own websites, Davidson had a 17.8% admit rate, W&L was 19%. So Davidson is every so slightly more competitive. With that said, from my kid's DC private, many more kids are able to get into W&L than Davidson, with lower test scores and gpas, according to Naviance, anyway. |
| NP here. How would you all compare Davidson with Colgate? My kid is being recruited as an athlete at both, though academically may not pass read at Davidson. Really likes both but I think I am turned off by isolation of Colgate. Is there anything else to not like about Colgate, in comparison to Davidson? |
13 percent acceptance rate. 33-35 avg accepted ACT. Uh no. Not easier to get into by a long shot. |
My nephew went to Colgate and loved it. He actually loved the location; felt that it fostered a really tight and friendly college environment for him. |
