Well, let’s see. There’s the swimming pool on the roof, the restaurants, shops, and rec centers within walking distance, and the freedom to travel independently via bus and Metro when many suburban kids have to wait for their parents to chauffeur them. Funny how different options have different advantages and suit different people.

I know, right!?!

My parents live in a condo in the DMV - not DC so it won't work for OP - and the amenities make the place like going on vacation. There are: two pools (one indoors and one outdoors), a bowling alley, a fully-outfitted gym, tennis courts, swing sets and tot lot play areas, picnic areas, walking trails through wooded areas, hobby rooms, party rooms, a convenience store, a cafe that delivers with no delivery charge, walk to the metro or take the condo bus if you prefer, etc. There may be a putting green but don't quote me on that. And for the parents there is garage parking for 1 car with outside parking for all your other vehicles. In a gated community.

Like, what's not to love??? And, yes, I realize not all condos are alike and so not all of them will have the same amenities but not all SFH are the same, either. They all have pros and cons.

Is this the Rotonda in Tysons? Can't think of any other place with all of those amenities.

Well, I think it is Rotonda in Tysons. Actually Rotonda is a large gated condo community popular to old people as well as young people because it is conveniently located to everything (Greensboro and Spring Hill metro stations, Whole Foods, restaurants, shopping centers, movie theaters) and it belongs to McLean high school district, one of the best in DMV area.

Lot of condo/apartment bldgs on Cathedral, Wisconsin, Connecticut Avenues, in NW DC; Friendship Heights has bunch of condo bldgs too. Lot of kids, super convenient, many with pools, tennis etc. Most have storage space in basement and bike rooms.

The area near Mann elementary has lots of condo buildings. Some of them have outdoor pools too for the summer.

Yes. This is us. We rent a small house in upper NW, but when it's time to buy, back into a 3br condo we go — but will still probably cost us $1M.

LOL, we left our 2br apt for a 3br home 3 years ago and our kids still whine about moving back to our old more vibrant neighborhood. Don't project your insecurities and desires onto others. It's great that people have different needs.
