AP Calc BC in sophomore year?

I still wouldn't try to take an important class like precalc during the summer. Math just should not be rushed if he truly wants to understand. Unless he is off the charts brilliant and his current curriculum isn't challenging him at all. But that actually rarely happens in public hs schools in the dc area - plenty of advanced really smart kids.

OT, but can I ask what you do with your degree in Applied Math? DC is considering that.

Do schools hold it against kids who literally run out of classes to take?

They would expect them to go to MC or somehow do math in another way. Anyone who runs out of math classes will be seen as a math-oriented kid. So why wouldn't they continue through senior year??

You’ve probably already made your decision, but I’ll offer my thoughts anyway.

1) I took differential equations in college over the summer. I got an A- in the class, but nothing stuck. Pretty much forgot everything I learned.
2) Stats and math are different. I would not want to take senior year off from math and only do stats.
3) my kid did AP stat and AP calc bc junior year. No problem, got 5’s on both exams.

Yes-- very common to do AP Stats as a second math class sophomore or junior year-- all my kids have done that and had friends who did the same.

+1. My guess is that the only prerequisite for AP Stats is Algebra II.
