My dd learned easily at five in just a few minutes, and she has ASD.
My boys? Forget it! We have tried so many YouTube videos, “shoe tying parties”, OT, various methods..they are 10 and 12 and play travel sports but their fine motor skills are hopeless. They both needed a lot of ST so maybe that’s connected somehow? I’m honestly at a loss...will they never be able to tie their shoes... |
| I honestly think there is some environmental chemical causing some kids to have terrible fine motor skills. |
| 5. Kid wanted to wear tie shoes for K. She's also dyslexic. I found a video on YouTube showing a kid using the extra holes to tie 2 loops. She did it the first try, then looked at me and said "why didn't you show me this before mom???" Like I was holding out on her lol. |
| On his ninth birthday. |
My 8.5 yo genius can't do it. I think partially he's in his head, part issues with fine motor skills. |
| Recently at 6..but they come undone..all.the.time. Are there special laces I should buy? |
I agree. My mom taught five kids how to tie their shoes before K, she couldn’t believe my 8 and 10 yo kids couldn’t do it. Came over for “shoe tying morning”. Gave up two hours later, baffled. |
If by environmental you mean phones/tablets, yes. Swiping and one-fingered typing will only get a kid so far. |
| Embarrassed to admit that my kid is 12 and only recently started tying his own shoes. Mostly he just slips them on and off without tying still (I think he actually doesn't do it very well even now). |
