Student cases have skyrocketed in a week where they were not at school. 17 cases reported today at Oakridge alone. Almost 300 kids out across APS.
Teacher numbers hold steady at about 200 reported in the past week. 25 reported today. |
The bright spot is that it clearly shows that many teachers are getting sick at places other than school. If we had been open this week the positives would be blamed on being in the classroom. |
We haven’t been in school for three weeks. They aren’t getting sick from school being closed. They are obviously out and about while you are trying to hermetically seal yourself in your house. |
Teacher cases seem to be going down (now at 168 including syphax) and Kids are going up (350). |
Yeah. It’s prob from letting their kids mix it up with others and holiday visiting/ travel. Just like everyone else. |
This feels like wishful thinking but I'm hoping spread is slower (or negligible) in schools because kids wear masks and eat outside. |
I thought I read that APS is paying 2x this week?
|
Yes, that’s true. |
I’m sure Gernalissimo Duran will keep that in mind when he cancels winter sports this week because athletes are the source of outbreaks. |
I mean. It happens. Kids in sports spread covid to one another. It’s not just one thing. Just like you, teachers have families and we just went through a holiday season. Some teachers even have kids in sports. |
It is wishful thinking unless every one of those masks is a correctly fitted 94 or 95. |
A number of teachers were notified they were exposed the last week of school, due to someone else at school testing positive. They weren't notified into well into the winter break (about 10 days post exposure), so you really can't make that assumption. I am sure holiday travels, visits etc during the break, increased people getting it, but many teachers (and students) were exposed/got ill that last week of school. |
We’ll, that doesn’t support the case for over 300 teachers over the course of break to get sick. Now perhaps some got it from somewhere else and only tested because they were notified they were exposed in school. But there has not been this many teachers sick the entire school year, or last year in such a short period of time. It’s obviously due to the widespread community spread. I’m not blaming them at all. Are they supposed to stay locked in their home just because her teachers? No. But you can not say this is because they were exposed to some kid three weeks ago. |
The only sports that stopped are APS team sports and Arlington County Rec sports. None of the travel teams, hockey or futsal have stopped. If your kid plays above rec, nothing change for them over the past three weeks. They’re still playing and training. Many teams just had to be creative on where they’re practicing since APS won’t allow access into their facilities. |
The teachers I subbed for before the holidays all got Covid from their kids’ nannies or their boyfriends. |
