What’s the most extreme thing you’ve done to support your kid in their sport?

Sign up to play. As in register my kid in the appropriate league and buy the equipment and shoes.

My mom and I lived in a tiny apartment and she worked at the gym to pay for some of my training. I homeschooled so I could train up to 8 hours a day. My parents are amazing people. I don’t think I’d ever consider that for my kid.

That’s dedication both by you and your mom and also by your dad and sibling left behind. How many years did you do that for? How high did you rank?

PP who was elite. I competed at the senior elite level and went on a full ride to college for gymnastics. Competed all 4 years. I knew I wouldn’t make the Olympics though my teammates did (and are quite well known now).

My mom moved home when I went to college. Their selflessness astounds me.

Extreme things: coached three teams/all the kids at once.

So how does DD like Madison High?

Our neighbor moved to be closer to the gymnastics gym. Plus they are homeschooling and considering moving.

Agree-huge dedication and so glad you did college too. Also--if you were at WOGA after 2008 I might know you.

Limiting all vacations and trips to August, because my kid doesn't want to miss.

Swimmer! 🤪

We are a year round baseball and basketball family and also can only plan vacations first two weeks of August. Basketball AAU nationals usually end late June and baseball summer showcases run through July. For us, school usually starts Aug 20ish.

Once I ran out onto the field with a banner that I had made urging the coach to play my son at QB.

I was waiting for this one. This is bs. If the poster did do this, it wasn’t for their kid. I was for themselves.

Like everyone else on here, did weekend travel tournaments all the time, gave up vacations bc of mandatory practices, etc. Oldest is now a HS senior and is thinking of not playing the spring sport he has played since 4th grade. Also was not interested in considering playing any of the sports in college. Leaves me kind of wondering whether it was all "worth it," but I think it taught him valuable lessons, and he enjoyed it.
