So over this, in general. Masks on young children is child abuse.

This is OP. While I think requiring masks on a 2 year old is insane because they literally cannot cognitively be forced to do something like that at that age in their development. This sentiment also comes off insane. My four year old happily and cheerily wears his mask to preschool every day. My 6 year old competently and begrudgingly wears her to Kindergarten. It isn't hurting them. The difference is that they understand what is being asked of them and have the emotional regulation to do it, the 2 year old not so much.

DP, this is statistically untrue. You can’t run around saying “masks are fine” anymore because we have actual data, stupid. It is hurting them. There are tons of studies now showing cognitive and social delays due to masks, kids not learning what they need to in school because they can’t hear and don’t bother asking, and pretty importantly forcing six year olds to eat outside in 40 degree weather because they aren’t wearing masks is obvious harm. It is child abuse. Full stop.

Ha. My kids live in Maine and my 6 year old did an outdoor preschool program last year through the Maine winter so I think you’re barking up the wrong tree with that argument. And for the record absolutely adored the experience and is jealous of her siblings who is there now

“I live in Maine and sent my kids to an expensive outdoor wilderness experience” isn’t the rebuttal you think it is to kids in inner city Chicago who can’t afford new mittens or a coat without holes in them sitting outside for an hour at lunch regardless of the weather. Get out of your godd*** bubble you pretentious prick.

You SUBSTANTIALLY changed the parameters of your argument there. You did not say, 'forcing inadequately dressed children out into the cold is child abuse' because if you had said that, I would have agreed with it. I'm sure it feels good to say something, have people object, and then substantially reframe the facts to make them seem like a terrible person, but it is not actually moving the discourse forward in a way that will result in any real change, it will simply continue to accentuate the divides between us and allow 'leadership' to continue to pit us against one another.

I don’t understand why that wasn’t the obvious takeaway for you of PP’s statement. Watch the (not cable) news. Many people are rightfully outraged about kids sitting outdoors for lunch when their parents can attend sporting events, concerts, even just go to work normally on the very same day kids are forced to sit in the freezing cold. If a family hosted a dinner party in their home every single day but forced their child to eat outside in the winter during it because they were worried about the kids’ germs, we would demand a mental assessment and call CPS. What on earth about this situation doesn’t scream abuse? But let’s continue on because your child *likes* being outside.

My son now wears a masks at school and does well, but takes it off as sons as he leaves. He is turning 3 in April.

You should have put his mask back on. I do not care if you and your family get Covid but you have no right to expose my family! They should have thrown you off the plane

🙄 Don't fly on planes if you're that paranoid.
