I would like to have a small holiday party. We are going to Disney world. Not sure if people will want to avoid us.

We were ultra careful for a year. Then adults got vaccinated. 2 of my 3 kids are now vaccinated. DH and I have our boosters.

Yes, I'm avoiding people like you who are traveling and having parties You aren't being ultra careful if you are going to Disney and parties and other stuff. That isn't even careful.

Have your party. Most will go, some of us would not.

I said I was ultra careful for a year. We basically didn’t socialize and spent all our time outside, didn’t eat out, etc.

It has been 21 months. We started socializing since the spring in small groups outside.

We can just wait until 2022. I won’t have the holiday party.

OP - ignore the trolls. Look - covid is here to stay. At some point we have to get back to normal. Having a holiday party if you and your whole family is vaxxed is an entirely reasonable thing to do. going away is also an entirely reasonable thing to do (but note that disney WILL be full of anti vaxxers vs other destinations) that doesnt mean you haven't been careful. It means you recognize that covid is here to stay and it is deleterious to your mental health to continue to avoid something you are vaccinated against and completely virus proof your life. there is no 'right' or 'wrong' there is your comfort level with the idea of catching it, knowing that if your family is fairly healthy and you are vaxxed and boosted that you will in all likelihood have a mild course of illness. there's a kind of weird vibe in america at the moment of like - covid shaming - and it's just silly. it's endemic now and vaccines are avail so figure out what makes sense for your level of comfort and do it

But OP’s whole family isn’t vaccinated. The adorable youngest child may very well be a vector for Covid. How is that being cautious?

I’m looking forward for this return to normal, but kids under 5 are still unvaccinated and some families are still having to cocoon themselves to protect high-risk family members. I wish people would take this seriously so all us of could return to normal.

Do you want people to still stay home? It has been almost 2 years. The stay at home to do your part is long over.

I feel like I would be more hesitant around someone who had just traveled to Disney (with lots of peoples and lots of kids who are likely not fully vaccinated yet), vs someone who traveled for a small family gathering. Not a judgment but just the reality of what I would be comfortable with.

I probably would want friends who did this to get a test done after returning and would wait a few days before seeing them, unless we were outdoors with masks on.

I don’t know why travel is more of a risk than that?

Same. Which is why I chuckle at all of the posts from people asking if they should go to the salon or let their husband go on work travel. Lol.

OP, I feel no judgement toward those who travel. We will have high cases every winter so there is no end in sight. Those who judge other people’s choices will themselves move on, eventually. But they will probably face regret over years lost living life fully.

Cloth does not stop viruses. Just stop with this nonsense.

Florida is the safest state in the US. Community masking doesn’t stop transmission. The virus is driven by seasonality. The southeast states you all judged this summer have lower transmission than other regions right now.

You shouldn’t be going to any party then. The vaccine doesn’t stop transmission. Masks don’t stop transmission. There is no safety from respiratory viruses in our ecosystem.

I’m jealous. We haven’t been on a plane since 2019. I want to go somewhere.

Selfish Trumpies travel and walk around maskless. Omicron is real.

SCIENCE IS REAL, PEOPLE!

Science is real and the vaccinations work very well for preventing hospitalization and death. That’s why you should get vaccinated…and then live your life! The CDC is not issuing a blanket travel warning. In fact, there are very few recommendations the CDC provides for limiting travel. For example, it doesn’t say don’t travel if you have been exposed to covid 19 if you are vaccinated. However, they do say not to travel if you are awaiting the results of a covid test, and they do say not to travel to high risk places (like France right now, for example).

So yes, science is real but that also means people can travel.

So go. Rejoin the land of the sane.

Jealous. But I also don’t want to see them in person indoors until a few days have passed after their return.

Unless you are avoiding indoor environments, you don’t control this. You are around people who have traveled every time you go to the dentist, grocery store, library or a restaurant.

+1. Just get vaccinated, and book a trip!

we went to Disney World the week before thanksgiving. It was amazing!

When we got back, we got PCR tests 5 days later. Everyone who was gathering for thanksgiving did a rapid test in the host's garage before coming inside.
