Thinning hair

I went on it impulsively for thinning hair and it did nothing for me. after starting I saw a derm and he said he wished I had seen him first before starting on it as he was not a proponent. Didn’t think it worked well. I was afraid to stop because it is known to trigger a massive shed but I just couldn’t deal with the idea of using it forever. It is a big pain in the butt to apply every day, especially when you don’t see a benefit. I hated it.

Ultimately i stopped snd the shed wasn’t too bad thankfully.

What did your dermatologist actually recommend? Supplements they conveniently have available for sale in the office?

LOL He didn’t recommend anything too helpful. I still maintain you should see a derm before starting rogaine though! My guy recommended a laser comb which I bought and it did nothing but make my hair look a little fuller after use. He also recommended using latisse- dabbing it around the frontal region/upper temples of my head. I didn’t do that because latisse is too expensive for me. He also gave me a shot of b vitamins. Did nothing.

+1. Minoxidil is the active ingredient in rogaine. I use the generic version they sell at target at 5% strength “for men”.

costco website for Minoxidil says it's for men. Is it because it impacts your hormones?

I read that it’s because Minoxidil will grow hair everywhere it comes in contact. If you drip it on your face regularly, you will get facial hair, etc. For men, the extra hair growth doesn’t matter the way it does with women.

They say that but it is definitely not that potent. I swear it made my face kind of puffy though. It went back to normal after I stopped.

I posted on a different thread recently, but I did 3 PRP treatments and it really worked. My hair loss was probably due to a combo of wearing my hair up all the time, aging and pandemic stress. I stopped wearing my hair up except for workouts and started letting my hair air dry and it’s night and day from a few months ago.

where it touched the face or just in general? Yea, I'm thinking it does have some hormonal impact.

I noticed it around my eyes but my face in general always looked just a bit puffy while on it.

Can someone explain how you apply the foam Minoxidil? The directions say to fill half the cup with foam, and then I kind of scooped it out with a finger and tried to deposit on my hairline and part. However, it seems like most of it just stays in the hair, rather than sitting on the scalp. There’s got to be a better way to apply this stuff!

It also makes my hair all stiff and dry. After reading about side effects, I’m wondering if I should stop before I get much further into this (I’m only on day 3). I have a naturally puffy face, so I don’t need more of that, and I dread the shedding that some say will happen. Honestly - isn’t there a pill that helps hair growth??

I have used rogaine in the past with good results, but I already have naturally low blood pressure and the rogaine made it even lower. I am currently having moderate success with Viviscal. My hair doesn’t shed as much and it’s overall thicker.

Lots of realistic styles, colors, and they are easier to maintain and work with than bio hair 99% of the time. Skip toppers (they are more trouble than they are worth) and dive into wigs.

Anyone have experience with Nutrafol vs. Viviscal?
