I think both names are beautiful and you can't go wrong

Manuela or Emanuela would make more sense.

Hahaha what!? we're Jewish, not of Latin descent. Neither of those names would make ANY sense for us.

+1

Disagree. Emilia is the way the name is spelled in many other cultures.

My daughter's Mexican-American classmate spells it that way, fwiw.

OP, if the nickname will be Emmy, I would vote Emilia. Otherwise, I don't have a strong preference.

No. Both pronounced the same. Like Vivian and Vivienne. Same pronunciations but with different spellings.

I thought these were Vivi-ann and Vivi-enne, no?

Me too

No...

I like Amelia., no nn. Unless it develops naturally. Amelia is so pretty why would you shorten it?

Amelia seems more straightforward, and I agree that it doesn't need a nickname. Both names are very pretty.

No, it really doesn't.

Emilia is my favorite character in Shakespeare's Othello, and my students usually like her, too. She's complex and wise, cynical and feminist, flawed but knows herself by the end of the play.

I considered it for our daughter. And no, I wasn't trying to "spell Amelia differently."

I think that is a reach that no one will understand except you. Amelia is very pretty. How does it go with last name ?

People always think Emilia is pronounced like Emily with an a at the end. Eh-mil-EE-uh.

Both names are beautiful. And people who pronounce it Emily ah are the same who call it chip o toll. Chipotle.

Emilia by far!

My friend is Greek and she named her daughter Emilia.

I like Amelia (this will be my daughter's name) and it is pronounced differently from Emilia.

No nicknames.

Emilia: Eh-MEEL-yuh
Amelia: Uh-MEEL-yuh

So if you want Emmy as a nickname, I'd go with Emilia. Milly would work better as a nickname for Camille or Millicent, since neither name has a strong "mil" sound.

Yes, OP needs to indicate which pronunciation she wants, which would determine the spelling. Many of the responders assume they are pronounced differently when the OP implies she doesn't think that by saying the name has been decided and it's just the spelling left to decide.

Not sure if this is helpful, but I associate Amelia with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amelia_Bedelia. Maybe people might also think of Amelia Earhart.

Please don’t call her Millie.

This is the correct answer.
