Does anyone know how much the extended day program is for APS summer school? It's not listed on their website and the office is closed. I know it might change, but how much did you pay last year?
Also, just noticed that students need to be failing to take the Math/LA program. Last year, they allowed all students the opportunity to strengthen and review over the summer. Thanks in advance. |
| Not OP, but does anyone recommend the extended day program (good/bad)? |
|
OP - it varies a bit by school, but last year we paid $620 for five weeks of extended day morning and afternoon care. This was at Jamestown.
Extended day also varies by school, but we were VERY happy with the extended day program at summer school last year for our rising kindergartener. And we have been equally pleased with the program in our school. one note: depending on your school's start time and when the buses come, you may or may not want morning care. At our school, very few students do morning care. We decided against signing up for it because our bus comes at 7:50, which isn't much later than I was leaving the house anyway, and we saved $134/month by dropping mornings. Good luck, OP! Also - sign up for extended day as soon as you can. It opens March 1 and DOES fill up for many schools. You will need your child's student ID #, which they can give you over the phone if you call the office. Then you can sign up for a myschoolbucks.com account (and pay the $15 to have unlimited free transactions) to automatically deduct the payment every month. |
| Thank you very much!! Helpful information. |
| I thought the same thing regarding eligibility but if you look at the description under Math Camp it says it's for kids who are at grade level and want a more intensive math experience. I think they put it under the wrong header in the catalog. |
| Is it true that you must have a student number to register for Extended Day? I have not yet registered my rising Kindergartener because he hasn't had his annual physical yet. He does have an older sibling who has attended Extended Day for several years, so we have a SchoolBucks account (for the older one, anyway -- are these child-specific?). Now I am worried that I will be able to register my older child for Extended Day on March 1, but not the younger. |
| *ETA -- when I say I have "not yet registered my rising Kindergartner," I mean that I haven't yet submitted the paperwork packet to enroll him in school for the fall, because that packet includes the physical. But can I still register him for Extended Day? |

I don't know if they'll let you register for extended day without the registration number. You can try! They do ask for it, but you might be able to put in 000000, and see if it goes through. It might.
You might want to submit the registration packet to school without the health form, start the registration process, and then let them know when to expect the health form. If you had a well visit any time within the year before the first day of school, you should be able to submit that paperwork. |
I believe you do need a student ID number in order to register for Extended Day. Just fyi, you can go ahead and send in the rest of the packet without the health form. My DD is a late summer birthday, and the registrar said it was fine to just drop off the health form when it was completed in August. |
Thank you so much, and to the pp as well -- that is very helpful to know! OP, sorry for hijacking your original thread. Speaking of which, more on topic -- my older kid has had wonderful experiences with Summer Extended Day! The 3-week extended day program at ATS that takes place during the elementary enrichment programs (Global Village and Summer Laureate) is awesome. It's really more like a summer camp, with special activities and events and even a couple of pool visits and field trips. Way above and beyond what I expected. |
