Oh, that made my night.

Nah, there are a lot of us Baltimore moms out there. But this year wasn't an admission year for us, thank goodness. Last year's notification date was Feb 14 and I was sweating buckets, since our backup plan was basically "move in the next few months". Worked out for us, though.

Hope all the B'more moms got the answers they hoped for!

We will be applying next year for middle schools so I'm interested in any info folks have this year.

We only applied to two schools for our DS: Gilman and Park. He was rejected from both for K. Luckily, we have been accepted to a few charter schools. We may apply again for middle school.

Take advantage of Gilman's offer to discuss testing/application. May give you some insight re whether it's worth trying for pre1st/1st, both of which are also entry yrs. we did not get infor K but did get in the following yr.
also, friends is another good school and sometimes has room post-admission cycle.
But hopefully you will like your charter!

Thank you for the information. Park school actually stated on the letter we should reapply for 1st. I will contact Gilman for more information!

^^ second this. The director of admissions is really great and passionate about kids and their learning styles -- i felt we got our $50 admission fee's worth by listening to her explain our son's test results. Do not pass up the opportunity. It will definitely give you some insight into whether or not to apply in the future, too -- not whether your son is "smart" but whether his style is one that will be well served by what Gilman has to offer.

Did you meet with her in person or over the phone?

We met Lana is person. The letter we received stated that we could make an appt to talk to her. Even if the letter doesn't say that, do give her a call. She is extremely nice and very helpful re your kid and his abilities. If you let her know you are committed to Gilman she will absolutely tell you what she needs to see next time around. She may even suggest a place for K (for example, Redeemer sends a number of boys to Gilman each yr). She may also suggest some other schools to look at for your son for next yr. For ex, the new head of St Paul's lower school, Dr Powell, was the assistant LS head at Gilman for a long while - he's fabulous. I believe the school is a bit less difficult to get into, though a great school.
