| My neighbor's cat is on their front porch, meowing loudly at the locked door. I knocked and got no answer and got a full voicemail on the one number I have for them (same number on cat's collar). I'm not an expert on cats or on weather this cold -- is this a problem? Should I make more efforts to contact them? Should I assume the cat will be ok? Should I bring the cat into my basement (I'm allergic so it would have to be a basement room!) until I hear from them? |
| My cat ran outside yesterday without me realizing it. She was fine but ready to come in when I got home in the early evening. It is not ideal, but the cat will figure out how to get warm. |

I feel really bad for the cat. I don't think it should be out for prolonged periods in this weather. If you can handle, it please bring it into your basement. Once the sun starts to set, it won't even be able to find any warm(ish) spots.
Or you could call animal control or the Humane Society about other options. |
Set up a warm space with a box and towels for the cat until your neighbors come home. |
| How about dogs? My neighbor keeps his dog outside most of time (w/o dog house or shelter). I worry but haven't said anything. Are dogs ok at 0-10 F degree weather outside? |
| Please bring that poor cat into your basement. This breaks my heart. |
| Oh my. I have an outdoor cat and I've had the cat indoors for a few weeks now and we have a heated cat house on the covered porch! I will say that it might be a bit warm in the sun, but this is too cold outdoors for cats and dogs for any longer than 20min. |
No. It is too cold outside for pets. I would call the humane society. |
Your neighbor is a horrible person and should not own pets. |
plus 1 |
| Animal control. |
| Both cats and dogs should be inside right now. And no cat should ever be an outside cat. You are not fit to have cats if you let them roam. |
+1 |
| It's too cold. Period. |

The cat will likely be just fine (I grew up in Northern Canada); however, I'd take over a box of some sort with blankets to line the bottom of the box. If the cat can get off the cold ground, it will be much warmer...
Some outdoor cats will just not come in when you call them. This doesn't necessarily mean that the owners intended to let him out. My indoor cat ran outside today when I let the dogs out. He turned around and came back in ASAP...lol. |
