I freely admit I have been on DCUM for way, way too long.
I remember back in the day, say 5+ years ago, that the obsession on this specific forum was Beauvoir, and more pointedly, how to get your kid admitted to Beauvoir. The school was over-represented in related threads, too, dealing with curriculum, parent culture, assistant junior teachers, pedophiles, and diversity (or not). Which preschools were the best launching points, etc. Anyone else recognize this change? If there was a word cloud in 2008 for the Independent Schools forum, the word 'beauvoir' would've been huge and the other schools somewhat smaller. Now it seems there would be more balance in that word cloud. My kids did not apply, btw. Only DCUM old-timers in actual Washington DC will know what I'm talking about. |
| Maybe folks are reading the previous threads . . . Are you suggesting that the interest in Beauvoir has dwindled? |
No not at all; I think the readership in DCUM has exploded and it dilutes the pool of interest |
| IDK people still care whether Beauvoir teaches cursive.. |
Isn't that because one of their teachers was a child sex abuser and was on the run from the FBI? |
| Thankfully the Beauvoir Cotillion thread is still floating around. |
| Yeah, no one cares. |

Maybe people came to realize that Beauvoir is a school like any other - with strengths and weaknesses, great teachers and bad ones, pros and cons. It's not some perfect fairyland. The bottom line: a fabulous playground doesn't really matter much if your kid has to spend the year with a so-so teacher. -former Beauvoir parent |
| Maybe the Beauvoir parents who kept those threads going have moved on to NCS. |
OP here. I think there is merit to this. Meanwhile, parents of 3 year old hopefuls have an archived treasure trove of material to search and so don't need to start so many new threads. Maturing DCUM ... |
