'Cryo generation' and DE

Anonymous
Ran into this on Amazon Prime the other night and binge-watched the first season. I'm considering going the DE route, so a show about a group of kids seeking their sperm donor father really hit me. Not sure how I feel overall and not likely it will actually sway my opinion, but it has made me...I don't know! Feel conflicted, I suppose. My husband is more in favor of attempting our first round with my eggs, where I am leaning toward DE. At my age of 42 the difference in success rate is striking.

Anyone else see this show and have thoughts to share? Perhaps you can help me process mine...or at least phrase them more eloquently

I haven't seen the show, but I know there is a lot of hype and dramatization around the scientific possibilities that the growing field of knowledge of human fertility raises. Look at the coverage of the recent legislation in England regarding 3 party embryo generation to eliminate genetic disease.

It's a field rife w/ possibilities for creative minds to run wild.

Don't make your decisions based on this kind of media hyped science. Do a lot of reading of the research on donor issues, parents/kids who have benefited from the science, talk with other parents, get involved in an online forum of people going through this now, etc...

Let those kinds of resources help you work through the decision making. If you go DE you will probably be required to talk with a social worker at some point in the process - they can be a fantastic resource as well and you don't need to wait for that, you could get a referral from your RE today. It might be time really well spent.

Good luck!

Is this the MTV show? I can't remember what it was called, but it had the same premise you describe. In our case, we have a sperm donor, so it was interesting to watch for that reason. Our sperm donor, however, is a known donor, so we won't be facing anything like this down the line. Watching this solidified our reasoning behind using a known donor. It's much easier for men to donate sperm, obviously, and we didn't love the thought of that many siblings. I think, should you choose to connect to others using the same egg donor, your circle would be much, much smaller!
