Highly privileged liberally minded white person here. Looking to buy in an up and coming neighborhood to make the most of DC's gentrification but am concerned about exposing my kids to downsides of mixing with poverty.
Can people tell me the code words I need to use in posts so I don't appear racist? |
| Troll score: 0. You're not even trying. |
| You are a troll that can be seen from a mile away. |
Lamest troll ever. Seriously, possibly in the history of DCUM. |
| Quiet neighborhood. |
| Quality education |
| diverse |
| Say you want "good schools" |
| OP- not a troll, but appreciate I worded the post a little provocatively. But seriously, it just feels hard to vocalize my desire for a quality DC education for my kids without having a racist overtone in everything that comes out of my mouth. |
Is it possible that some of your assumptions are a bit racist? I don't mean that in a critical / provocative way. |
| You used one: poverty. There's also: gentrification, "forever home," great schools, etc. |
| Say you want schools that are "turning" or "flipping" |
| Ask if people are staying at __ school past __ grade. |
| "the trifecta" -- as used on this site. |
Too late. You want enough black people in your neighborhood to make houses cheap but not so many in the schools. If you're not a troll, you need to do some serious soul searching, because you're a racist. |
