Private & Independent Schools
| Has anyone heard from The Langley School yet? |
| Not yet. I think we'll hear on Saturday. |
| Langley has admission 'challenges'--meaning no one wants to go there. Don't worry, everyone will get in unless your child is way off-mark. |
| Why would you say that? And, does that translate to other VA privates like Potomac, Green Hedges, etc? |

I think all the VA schools are easier to get into than Sidwell. But that doesn't mean they aren't competitive and good schools. They just are good private schools surrounded by good public schools. It also means that the people applying aren't generally ready to sell their souls to get in, which makes them much nicer and it makes the families at the schools actually want to be there, versus just being desperate to avoid DCPS.
Langley is a great place - my kids love it and the teachers are wonderful, the campus is great. Camp is good too. Its small and the faculty members appreciate and get to know the families, from babies to grandparents, not just the student who attends. It doesn't compete with big-name schools because its small and doesn't have a high school. I think the school is ok with that, and that's part of the reason many families send their kids there in the first place. |
I hope for the sake of the poster above that her child is accepted. Saying no one wants to go to Langley and everyone gets in unless your child is way off-mark (aka a moron) is pretty harsh. I have heard wonderful things about Langley and graduates do go on to some of the top privates in the area, both in VA and DC/MD. |
| Either the PP is disgruntled or just trying to get everyone all riled up. We loved Langley and hope to go there. It was the least pretentious most caring school to which we applied. |
| We're looking forward to checking it out next year. DS will apply for K at Langley... hopefully they'll have a few spots because I know a lot of kids start at pre-k. |
| They generally have 12+ spots for K there since they go from 2 Jr. K classes to 3 K classes. |
