Wyngate/ north Bethesda middle/ Walter Johnson

We are looking at homes in the Wyngate/ north Bethesda middle/ Walter Johnson HS schools area. We are new to the area and don't know much about them. I see good reviews online but would like to know more.

Specifically- are these schools worth maxing out our budget for?

If you ask Wyngate parents, their school is the best Elementary in MontCo. (I don't say that to start any sort of battle on the topic, just to indicate the strong review.) On the Special needs board, there have been some complaints. (Two different posters with Special Needs kids tried Wyngate for a couple of years, then went private).

For the same budget, you can get better home in Beverly Farms ES/Hoover/Churchill area. Schools are just as good as Walter Johnson (if not better)

Wyngate is good but overcrowded-certainly not the best school in the county. N. Bethesda is decent and WJ is good.

Beverly Farms is lovely, but further out.

I've heard complaints about Wyngate- mainly the overcrowding but I also know someone who pulled her child bc she thought that Wyngate couldn't accommodate his ADHD and she didn't like the admin.

Worth maxing out the budget for? If that's the only reason you're buying in Wyngate, and not for the better commute, proximity to downtown Bethesda, proximity to public transportation, then no, not worth maxing out budget - move further up the Pike or out to Potomac - both areas have great schools (Kensington-Parkwood (also North Bethesda, WJ), Garrett Park (Tilden, WJ), Wayside, (Hoover MS, Churchill) and many others and you get more house, same or better schools for your money. That said, Wyngate is a lovely neighborhood that many people adore.

This makes a lot of sense. In that specific area, you're paying for proximity, not just the schools. And proximity's great. But the areas a little further out have fine schools too. We're the other side of the Beltway in Ashburton/N.Bethesda/WJ, and we looked in the other WJ areas PP mentioned. They're all nice.

We wanted proximity to metro, so we didn't look in Potomac. Potomac's lovely, but you're marrying your car (and the rush hour road commute).
