| How did you find a tutor for your elementary aged child? Did you find someone from a nearby school and how? Or did you go through any educational consultant websites. Are there any good websites or a listserv? This would be in Northern Va. Thanks |
| Lab School and Stixrud. Check their websites. |
| Anyone know how much this would cost? |
| We did NOT have good luck with Wyzant tutors. |
| Kingsbury also has an excellent tutoring program. |
| There is a tutor list on the fcps website. It is primarily current teachers that tutor. They cannot tutor students from their own school. You can also contact the reading resource teacher from your school. They may keep a list too. This is how we found our tutor. |
| We found ours through our school's reading specialist and 2nd grade teacher. |
It varies from $60-$100 per hour. |
Your DC's school most likely has a list of recommended tutors - lots them are teachers. Keep in mind that your child's own teachers are not allowed to tutor them but you can find a tutor that teaches at a nearby public. |
| I would ask a specialist at your school if he or she knows anyone. Also try doing a search on this thread. Prices range depending on the type of tutoring. Homework help is on the lower end (60-70) whereas a research based program will be a lot more. |

My DC's tutor is a teacher at his school. His current teacher found her for us and it's much more reasonable than $60 an hour and this is for homework help in another language that we don't know.
The great thing about having another teacher as the tutor is that she can consult with the your child's current teacher and know what needs to be worked on. Also, they are familiar with the curriculum. |
Wyzant pays around 20.00 an hour for tutoring. No tutor worth their salt will work for that rate. |
| anyone notice a difference in cost with tutors from companies such as Stixrud or schools like Lab versus tutors who work in Fairfax county or in the public school system. Also any quality differences or it really depends on the individual tutor? Thanks |
