Ramsey Elementary in Alexandria City School System is a troubled school, but this is both frightening and just plain sad.

"Alexandria Girl Leaves School After Bullying Allegation
An 8-year-old Alexandria girl walked away from school without notice after an administrator ignored her claim she was bullied. News4's Shomari Stone talked to her parents who say they plan on transferring her to another school"

I thought she walked away because the education was so crappy.

I'm hoping the parents are permitted to transfer her to another elementary and that the problems of communication/response are thoroughly reviewed. It may be hard on the parents however if they live near that elementary and have to drive to get her.

This is why I think re-districting needs to occur in Alexandria. It would help balance each school and outspoken parents would drive overall improvement.

At times though I think even the upper middle class is lulled into complacency in our public schools. Activism requires strength and strength is in numbers.

Really glad this ended well with the help of that benefactor. Thank you, whoever it was.

You think the teacher would have noticed the white kid missing.

Why did these people go running to the news?

What do you think they bullied her about?

Maybe it's the only way they could get the school system to take them seriously?

I would be disinclined to help someone who went whining to the news if I were in a position of authority. Are you kidding me?

Why not?

In the initial news report, I think they said she got shoved by another student.

Perhaps the news descended upon them, rather than than they ran too it. Maybe the Good Samaritan felt it newsworthy? The police were involved. Police cars at schools often attracts talk and anyone could have called the local news.

Transparency isn't a bad thing, often moving issues along with daylight.

Maybe they were disinclined to help the family in the first place, which led the parents to notify the media.

Agree with this 100%.

This eight year old child was dropped off by her parent and entered the elementary school that day, leaving the class and school un-noticed (for whatever driven reason).

This may have ended tragically had not a Good Samaritan intervened and called the police. Let's not loose sight of that point and hold the parent's responsible.

Surely it would have been a newsworthy story if she had died. It is no less a newsworthy story that, with guardian angel help, she lived.

This is not a life-or-death situation. It's an 8 year old walking home from school in broad daylight at 9:15 AM. Sheesh. Do you expect that a school has posted guards at every entrance? The child should be scolded for leaving the school building without permission, and the administrators need to investigate the alleged bullying incident.
