Do I really want to loose the weight?

Anonymous
I seem to think and talk about loosing weight more than doing. I am frustrated. I love wine, chocolate and snack foods. Its my reward at the end of a hard day of being a good mom and wife . I will start working out again soon, but even then I can't ever shake it. I go back and forth between living with it or wanting to get rid of it.

Yes you want it, but not enough to cut out the things you like. When you REALLY want it, you'll cut out (or cut down) on those things. I completely understand where you are, I LOVE my wine at night. The only reason I'm losing weight is that I run 5-8 miles 5 days a week. Otherwise, no way.

You don't need to cut it out of your life, just cut it in half. I still drink wine, eat chocolate and I love french fries. I just gradually decreased portion size over time and increased physical activity...and have lost 50 pounds.

As others have said, cut down, not out. If you try to cut out toally all the things you love, you will just give up in frustration or start eating something worse.

My real world examples:

1. No alcohol on school nights

2. Instead of a snickers (280 calories and very high fat for the small one), eat a 100 calorie jello fat free chocolate pudding. When I tried to cut out chocolate totally, I found myself going to a bakery every day and getting a chocolate chip brownie, which was probably 500 calories!

3. If I have to order lunch out, throw out half the sandwich or throw out the bread.

4. Cut back on my portions at home.

Good luck, OP.

Awesome!

I agree with just cutting down. I can have chocolate ice cream on Sundays, but that's it. I used to eat it almost every night. And a glass of wine with dinner on Fridays.

I don't feel deprived this way.

You probably do not want to loose it, but you might want to lose it though.

I think this is a good suggestion. (OP here) I cannot limit to one day a week. Maybe a couple times, but I notice if I am too restrictive I give up REAL fast. Sometimes I get carried away with the wine or margaritas. Before you know it I have had several. How many calories are in mixed drinks and wine? Anyone know? I hate that I love eating and drinking so much. Thanks for all of the comments so far.

I always to try focus on the reward off in the distance (rather than at the end of the day)-- which for me, is putting on those skinny jeans!! There ain't nothing that tastes as good as that!

OP, the margaritas are killing you. Google it, but I think they can be upwards of 500 calories a drink. HORRIBLE.

It takes time and you have to strike the balance of having what you like while taking food out of the reward pile. As long as you look at food as the reward, you will just replace one bad food for another. This is not to say you should not enjoy wine, chocolate, whatever. But every night is a setup for never losing the weight.

Find some rewards you really want....that are not food. You will probably go through some serious withdrawal b/c you are addicted to sugar, but you can do it!

I exercise almost every day SO I can have the things I love - red wine, pasta, chocolate. It's totally worth it. If I gave up the exercise, I'd have to cut my calories way back and then I'd be cranky all the time. Not a good tradeoff.

I have a glass of red wine every night after my daughter goes to bed. It's my reward for getting through the day. But I use small glasses and make sure a regular bottle lasts for 5 glasses - that's just over 5 oz per glass, which has somewhere between 108-125 calories, according to the websites I've seen.

red wine tends to have fewer calories per ounce than white wine or champagne, and just slightly more than most light beers, which typically have 90-110 calories per 12-oz serving. Most non-light beers have 125-150 calories per 12 oz serving. mixed drinks can have a lot more calories, so it's smart to stick to wine.

I try to exercise portion control with the indulgent foods I love. If I'm getting pasta at a restaurant, I generally have it with salad, limit myself to one piece of bread and make the pasta last for two meals. If we're having steak, I get the smallest cut they have of something that's relatively lean, like sirloin or filet. If I'm cooking at home, I'm strict about serving sizes and I don't sauce my veggies.

good luck! don't give up everything you love!

Why do people do this? So annoying. Newsflash: people with kids posting here are posting fast to get other things done. Or posting with kids pulling on their legs. Or posting while trying to do 100 other things. Give us a break, will you?

It's not a typo when you type it incorrectly four times.
